BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist PGDip, EMDR

About me

I am a fully trained and BABCP-accredited psychotherapist offering CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) to both adults and young people for the treatment of many mental health problems.

Whether you're facing anxiety or depression, stress, trauma or addiction, navigating significant and distressing life changes – whatever it is you’re facing - I bring a depth of training and experience to support you in building resilience, understanding yourself more deeply, and moving toward meaningful, sustainable change. My practice is informed by the latest research, but grounded in the uniqueness of your individual story.

Struggling with poor mental health can take up a lot of our time, deciding that things need to change can be done in an instant.

I use the evidence-based principles of CBT alongside additional training, learning and knowledge to help you better understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in real-time. This is achieved by learning how to use CBT techniques and strategies in your day-to-day life. These tools for life will help you achieve better mental health and wellbeing once more, and I will guide you in how to use them effectively so you can maintain mental wellbeing going forward into your future.

About therapy with me:

Therapy sessions can be online for UK-wide clients, with face-to-face therapy available in a comfortable Lancaster-based clinic. Outdoor 'walk-and-talk' therapy sessions are available in a beautiful north Lancashire location – please read more about online and face to face therapy on my website www.janerowlandcbt.co.uk

Now available:

I’m offering therapy sessions using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). This is a NICE-recommended and highly effective treatment for PTSD and the highly distressing effects of adverse traumatic experiences; it is also highly successful for other mental health problems.

In addition, I offer outdoor ‘walk and talk’ therapy which integrates traditional therapeutic techniques with the healing power of the natural environment. Sessions take place in outdoor settings, woodlands, or coastal paths, combining physical movement, nature connection, and therapeutic conversation to support psychological wellbeing.

Please contact me for more information and a free 15 minute consultation to see if I might be the right therapist for you.

Experience:

For over 20 years, my career has spanned different aspects of mental health service delivery and development - from 13 years in the NHS to time spent working in the charitable sector to more recent work in higher education. Starting out as a practitioner, I have held operational and strategic management positions, returning to my current role as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist in private practice. This is where my true passion lies, practising CBT with a diverse range of clients and helping facilitate the changes they want to make in their lives. In turn, that passion underpins the guidance and support I offer other trainees and therapists through clinical supervision, and also the knowledge I share with students in university teaching settings.

I offer a unique approach to CBT that draws on several key specialisms and professional interests and experience. These are used according to your specific needs and to best support you and the wide range of emotional and psychological challenges you may be facing.

Whether you're just beginning your journey to better mental health or seeking a new perspective on old problems, I'm here to provide the guidance and support you need. Please see my website for more information about me and my practice, or get in touch.

Further information

With a rich and varied life journey, I bring not only professional training but also the depth of perspective that comes with age and experience. Over the years, I’ve gained insight into the many challenges and transitions that life can bring. This informs my clinical work, allowing me to meet clients with empathy, realism, and an understanding of the complexities of human experience. My approach integrates evidence-based CBT with a non-judgmental and compassionate presence, helping clients create meaningful and lasting change.

CBT often focuses on treating one specific diagnosis at a time. But our mental health is rarely that orderly. Many people don’t fit neatly into a single category, or they may deal with multiple issues all at the same time. I prefer to adopt a transdiagnostic approach to CBT which helps recognise this complexity.

In addition I am trained in the use of mindfulness and acceptance and find these approaches very helpful alongside CBT.

Please have a look at previous clients’ testimonials on my website and read about their experiences of therapy with me.
