About me
I am a trained integrative counsellor proficient in Person-centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive-Behavioural perspectives on counselling. When working with clients I create a safe, supportive environment for self-understanding and growth. I believe in:
- working collaboratively
- helping clients explore their experiences
- building resilience
- supporting clients to move toward meaningful change at their own pace.
I understand my clients are the experts on their own lives, and my role is to work together with them to help better understand the challenges they are facing, with patience and understanding. I aim to create a safe space in which:
- clients can feel free to say whatever is on their mind and in their heart
- to tailor support to each individual’s situation
- there is no single way to heal; rather, each client’s journey is unique
- a warm, non-judgmental environment is the best place to explore your thoughts and feelings safely.
Together, we can work to understand patterns in your life, uncover underlying emotions, and develop tools for lasting change. Whether you’re facing anxiety, low mood, relationship challenges, historical trauma or a sense of being “stuck,” I offer compassionate support and an integrative approach that focuses on both insight and practical coping strategies.

Counselling Testimonial for Ian Kane:
I have known Ian as a counsellor for over two and half years. Before this I had seen a few counsellors over the years, but I got nothing from them and became very disillusioned with therapy. I felt that therapists could not help me or tell me anything I did not know already. So, when I started the sessions with Ian, I was doubtful I would get anything from them. However, Ian had a professional manner but was also easy to talk to and, gradually, over time, I found myself starting to open up and revisit traumas that I had not thought about for many years.
With Ian’s guidance, communication and listening skills, he managed to get me to the root of my traumas and gave me skills to self-reflect and self-analyse. He also showed me how to look at situations from a different perspective. I had put up many walls over the years, and Ian helped me knock down these walls and become vulnerable, which led to me understanding how the situations in my childhood and adulthood had affected my life. Going forward, Ian taught me the skills to help me address these issues as and when they might crop up in my life - and which had previously been a major source of distress for me – as well as regularly leading me into conflicts in life.
Ian constantly reminded me that these sessions were for me to talk and I became confident in speaking about any fears or concerns I had, and this was due to Ian making me feel I was in a safe place. I now have the tools to cope with potential situations of dispute or distress so that I can understand my own reactions, and how to better express my needs without it turning into a conflict.
One of the most amazing things that has come out of my sessions with Ian is that with his guidance he saved my relationship with my dad. If it weren’t for Ian, I would have ended that relationship and so that is something I will be eternally grateful for.
