About me

Hello and thank you for your time and attention.

It was my role as a mental health nurse in the NHS that originally led me into counselling and psychotherapy. I learnt how learning to fix or care for ourselves provided lifelong wisdom about how to keep ourselves emotionally healthy.

I realise now that what has shaped me in the work I do is being born at risk of a rare genetic disease and experiencing the emotional challenges this presents. This has shaped how I approach life, as I believe in living life with intention and purpose to make 'my' life as meaningful as I can, to get the most out of myself and life itself. My philosophy is to live life to the full by finding the psychological freedom to live true to myself, my passions and beliefs, a space where I can find not only myself but within me peace and joy. This authenticity is important in my relationship with myself, with others and the community//world i live within. I understand emotional distress as a marker of the space between our real selves and the person we are being asked to be.

My practice is open and inclusive, and values the uniqueness of everyone.

My availability is Monday to Friday, with late night on Wednesdays

Training, qualifications & experience

My formal psychotherapy training began whilst I was employed in the NHS.

As a nurse I have worked within a wide range of mental health services and this experience has provided a firm foundation for my private practice.

In my 20 years of working as a counsellor/psychotherapist in private practice, I have successfully worked with individuals, couples and groups, as well as providing training in social care settings.

I completed an MSc Counselling at Hull University in 2007, but my real passion for all things psychological is Transactional Analysis. In this field I call myself 'a geek' because the theory, the practice, and the people who support me have shown me the effectiveness of this method of working. The therapy is ethically based with personal commitment to the client creating the foundation to change and progress with intention.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
