About me
Professional Counselling to Support Your Mental and Emotional Wellbeing
Life can often feel overwhelming, especially when you’re balancing personal struggles with work, relationships, and other responsibilities. If you’re feeling anxious, stressed, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or facing tough transitions, it can be hard to know where to begin or how to move forward.
Welcome to Gordon Michael Counselling
A space where you can step back, reflect, and gain clarity. Therapy with me offers a supportive, open space to explore life’s challenges, work through anxiety or depression, and restore balance.
I use an integrative approach based on the Clarkson model, tailoring therapy to your individual needs. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, family or relationship issues, or life’s bigger questions, I am here to help you understand what feels stuck.
Our work together creates a supportive space where you feel heard and understood. We will explore thoughts, feelings, and patterns, building insight and finding new ways to approach life’s challenges with greater ease.
Together, we’ll work to:
- Build resilience and emotional awareness
- Reflect on the patterns or experiences that are keeping you stuck
- Develop practical tools to cope with stress, anxiety, or relationship struggles
- Uncover your inner strengths and resources for moving forward
I believe that real change comes from self-awareness, connection, and a genuine therapeutic relationship. Whether you’re addressing a specific issue or embarking on a broader journey of self-discovery, I’m here to support you with the tools and guidance to help you thrive.
Training, qualifications & experience
Just you, me, and a safe space to explore the pressures of life and work. No judgement, no advice - just a trained listener to help you understand your feelings and find clarity.
Hi I’m Gordon
I’m a integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.
I spent over 10 years working for the NHS and partner agencies, specialising in mental health, addiction, and trauma. My experience also includes outreach work for homeless individuals and those struggling with addiction. In 2018, I made the transition to training as a therapist, combining my passion for supporting others with a career focused on positive change and personal growth.
As well as my private practice, I also work within NHS primary care mental health services.
Over the years, I’ve gained extensive experience working with individuals facing a broad range of challenges, including trauma, stress, burnout, work-life balance struggles, low self-confidence, and self-esteem issues. I’ve also supported clients through bereavement, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
My first session
I offer a complimentary 20-minute initial call to hear what’s brought you to therapy, discuss your goals, and answer any questions. It’s a chance for us to see if we’re a good fit to work together.
The first session is an opportunity to meet, explore your reasons for therapy, and explain the process so you feel informed.
I’ll create a warm, welcoming space where you can share what’s on your mind, and we’ll review paperwork and confidentiality.
If another form of support feels more suitable, I’ll help you find it. If you need time to think, that’s perfectly fine too.
Availability
I offer face to face therapy and online, making it accessible wherever you are, and I can arrange telephone sessions if that’s easier for you.
Sessions typically take place weekly, with the option for flexibility around timing and frequency based on your needs.
Each session lasts50 minutes at £80 per session for individuals and £100 for couples, but the overall duration of therapy depends on your individual journey—some clients prefer short-term work (just a few sessions), others benefit from medium-term therapy (10-15 weeks), or choose to work together over the longer term.
I can usually schedule an initial appointment within a few weeks.
