About me
Hello, my name is Flo, and I am an Art Therapist registered with HCPC. In therapy, I view my role as a supporter who works alongside you to help you feel safe (or brave) enough to explore your inner world.
It is essential that therapy feels like your space. There can be as much or as little art-making/ talking as you wish. Prior experience or interest in art is not necessary to benefit from art therapy.
I have worked with those affected by trauma, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, social isolation, complex grief, learning difficulties, and societal oppression (amongst others).
I specialise in working with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I have lived experience of OCD and have completed accredited training for Exposure and Response Prevention (the gold standard treatment for OCD). As such, I understand the immense suffering that OCD can bring and the complexity with which it needs to be treated. I describe myself as 'recovered' from the condition, meaning that I can happily live a contented life alongside it, allowing me to provide hope for those feeling trapped in the OCD cycle.
Compassion, empowerment, mindfulness, and play are all cornerstones of my practice.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an MSc in Art Psychotherapy from Queen Margaret University.
I have also completed CBT for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) training with the Association of Psychological Therapies, allowing me to treat OCD with Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), the 'gold standard' treatment for OCD.
I have experience working with children, children with chronic illness, adults with mental health and emotional difficulties, neurodivergent adults and adults with neurological conditions or injuries.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
