About me
My name is Fiona Harnett and I am a fully qualified counsellor. I have trained in both Gestalt and Person-centred modalities.
I endeavour to meet and understand every client’s unique experience of the world, tailoring a personal approach to your therapeutic journey which embraces the authentic you.
I have worked in the NHS as a bereavement counsellor and also work for a low-cost counselling service where I see both long-term and short-term clients.
I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling is not about giving you solutions or advice but empowering you to make your own changes.
I work with adults and young people (11-18 years) from all walks of life, coming to me with a diverse range of problems.
As a fully qualified counsellor, I am a member of both the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and also the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and I abide by their ethical codes. I am insured and have full DBS clearance.
Training, qualifications & experience
What I can offer:
I am currently working for a charity offering low-cost therapy. I see adults and young people (11-18 year olds) for both short-term and long-term work.
I am a committed and professional counsellor.
Speak in confidence:
Counselling takes place in a safe space where I will listen with sensitivity, empathy and without judgement. In the therapy space, thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
A problem shared...
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression, many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives you a new awareness of the cause of these problems and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Make healthier choices:
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them in the way that you do and see how you can start to make healthier choices moving forward.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
