About me
Welcome to my page
There are many different reasons why people seek therapy and finding the right therapist is the first and most important step to take in making lasting and positive change, making this step can often feel confusing and a little bewildering.
With the right therapist, you should feel understood and listened to enabling you to explore the difficult issues and problems you are facing.
I have over 17 years experience as a therapist working in the public sector as well as private practice. My work has been with adults, children, families, and couples. I have been lucky enough to have worked in a wide range of settings specialising in areas such as family break down, conflict and anger management, relationship issues, grief and loss, anxiety and depression and also managing stress in the workplace as well as working with a range of clients who have experienced different trauma’s in their lives both small and big traumas.
I pride myself in being a warm and empathic listener who can help with gaining insight into your life, I can support you to find the right tools to manage feelings and facilitate in bringing back a sense of balance and calm.
A number of benefits that counselling can bring and areas that I can help you with include, but are not limited to the following:
- Attaining a better understanding of your thoughts and feelings
- Developing skills for improving your relationships and reducing conflict
- Finding a resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy
- Learning new ways to cope with stress, anxiety and negative self-talk
- Managing anger, depression, OCD, and other emotional pressures
- Improving communication with family members both adults and children
- Challenging and changing negative behaviour patterns and responses
- Discovering new ways to solve problems in your relationships or work
- Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence
I am an Integrative Counsellor which means that I combine several models of counselling to fit the needs of my clients and their situation. This means I tailor the therapy and our work together to suit you and your needs, rather than taking a one hat fits all approach.
I understand how busy life can be and how precious time is therefore I not only offer face to face therapy in a calm and spacious therapy room but I also provide counselling via telephone, Skype or TEAMS.
I offer Personal Therapy and Supervision to fellow counsellors and provide Clinical Supervision for Individuals and Groups and again can offer face-to-face, Skype or TEAMS supervision.
What type of therapy are you looking for?
Individuals
It takes courage, strength, and wisdom to make changes when you are feeling overwhelmed or distressed, counselling can offer you a space and option to explore what is troubling you or blocking you from moving forward.
I have studied a range of different approaches and so am able to tailor my approach to your needs and your own issues. I see clients for many different reasons ranging from depression and low mood, stress and anxiety, relationship issues, grief and loss, anger management, and conflict.
EMDR/Trauma Therapy
When an individual has experienced both low-level and high-level trauma the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) can be applied. EMDR has been known to produce positive results faster than other types of mental health therapy. As your therapist, I can discuss the process in more detail at your initial consultation and assessment. I will always discuss the process of counselling and EMDR with you and will take direction from you in terms of what you feel you need to address and if you feel this is a therapeutic technique you would like to try.
Children/Teenagers
It can be so difficult and disheartening to see your child upset and distressed
You may find that it can be very challenging to get them to open up about their feelings or problems, making it tricky to know where to turn or what to do for the best.
I work with children between the ages of 6 years upwards and provide counselling to support with a range of areas such as grief, loss and family separation, friendships, school issues, trauma, worry, anxiety, and anger.
A young child’s natural means of communication is through play, I use toys, games and creative materials to work with a child to help them express their feelings and emotions in a safe therapeutic environment, my counselling practice is equipped to facilitate this and is child friendly which I believe helps to ease any anxiety about working with me. I use a number of different approaches depending on your child’s age, needs, temperament, and life situation.
If your child is older child or a teenager, then the counselling will be based on the more adult form of talking therapy.
As well as therapy for children I also provide Parent Coaching to support parents navigate some of the challenges and difficulties that childhood brings to how we parent.
Couples/relationships
Relationship choices are potentially one of the biggest that we make in our life and building one is something that takes time and effort.
Couples can find themselves unhappy within their relationship and this can be extremely stressful to cope with
Working with couples I look at different ways of resolving problems and conflicts that couples have not been able to handle effectively on their own. It involves both partners sitting down to discuss their thoughts, feelings, and frustrations in order to explore and resolve differences. My aim as a therapist is to help each individual gain a better insight and understanding of themselves and their partner and gain an understanding of negative patterns within the relationship in order to facilitate change.
Family therapy
Family therapy can help family members improve communication and resolve conflicts within a family unit.
Therapy can give families the chance to express and explore their feelings in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
I work alongside families to discuss difficulties and differences within their relationships with the aim of improving communication and finding a way forward together.
My work may include all family members or just those able or willing to participate.
The specific work will depend on your family's situation.
Family therapy can be useful in any family situation that causes stress, grief, anger or conflict. It can help you and your family members understand one another better and learn coping skills to bring you closer together.
