About me
About Me
Hi, I’m Emma.
Life doesn’t always go the way we hoped it would. Sometimes something specific has happened that has knocked us sideways. Other times, we just know that things don’t feel right anymore.
You might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, exhausted, constantly overthinking, struggling in your relationships, or finding that you’re spending so much time looking after everyone else that you’ve lost sight of yourself.
Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
Talking to someone who isn’t family or a friend can be surprisingly helpful. It gives you the chance to say things exactly as they are, without worrying about upsetting anyone, being judged, or having to pretend you’re coping better than you are.
I offer counselling for adults as individuals, as well as relationship counselling for couples and other adult relationships, including parent-adult child relationships and adult siblings.
I work from a private garden room in South Wilmslow, where I offer face-to-face sessions in a calm and comfortable setting. Online appointments are also available if that works better for you.
How I Work
People often come to counselling hoping someone will tell them what to do.
That’s not really how I work.
Instead, I help people make sense of what’s going on in their lives, understand themselves more clearly, and find a way forward that feels right for them.
Sometimes that means looking at patterns that keep repeating in relationships. Sometimes it’s understanding anxiety, building confidence, managing difficult emotions, working through a loss, or learning how to set healthier boundaries.
Our sessions are led by what feels important to you. Some weeks that might involve talking things through in depth. Other times it might involve practical tools, strategies and different ways of approaching challenges.
My aim is to help you leave with a better understanding of yourself, greater confidence in your own decisions, and a sense that things feel more manageable than they did when you first arrived.
Qualifications and Experience
I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), working within its Ethical Framework.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 15 years as a primary school teacher. Across both roles, people have trusted me with some of the most difficult parts of their lives, and I never take that privilege for granted.
I draw on a range of approaches, including Person-Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), allowing me to tailor therapy to the individual sitting in front of me rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
