About me

Hi, I’m Emma, I offer support to both teenagers and adults. My practice is based in a peaceful and quiet garden room. This is a calming space where, with support, you can explore whatever challenges you’re facing.

Life can be hard, at different times and for different reasons. Sometimes we can ride the storm, and other times it all just feels too much. When things become overwhelming, it can help to have a space where you can talk things through, in confidence. Together, we can explore what’s going on for you, make sense of your thoughts and feelings, and find a way forward that feels more manageable and right for you.

I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is at the very heart of successful therapy. When you feel safe, supported, and really heard, it becomes easier to share what’s on your mind. This in itself can bring a sense of relief. Over time, this process can help you make sense of your experiences, build self-awareness, and find a clearer sense of direction.

I’ve supported clients with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, struggles with identity, abuse, baby loss, and challenges around sexuality. Whatever you bring, I’ll meet you with empathy, respect, and without judgment.

Sometimes the way we feel in the present is closely linked to our past experiences and the core beliefs we carry, often without even realising it. By gently exploring what’s beneath the surface, we can work out whether these beliefs and experiences are helping us or keeping us stuck. This creates space for new perspectives and healthier ways of being.

For teenagers, even with the most supportive family, they can find it hard to share everything they’re feeling. They often face challenges around identity, friendships, school, and self-esteem. Counselling gives them a space to talk to someone outside their everyday circle, someone who will listen without judgment or pressure. It can help them build confidence, develop coping strategies, and feel more understood. Some teenagers are happy to talk, while others prefer creative approaches like painting, journaling, or using other tools. I follow their lead and adapt each session to what feels most helpful and comfortable for them.

I work integratively, which means I combine different approaches depending on what suits you best. My core is person-centred, but I also draw on tools from CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and TA (Transactional Analysis) when helpful. My approach is always flexible and shaped around your needs.

I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I follow their ethical framework for good practice. I also attend regular monthly supervision to ensure I’m working safely, ethically, and in the best way to support my clients. Further training and learning is hugely important to me and I incorporate time within each week for this.

If you or your teen are going through a difficult time and would like some support, please feel free to get in touch. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so we can have an informal chat and you can ask any questions you may have.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
