About me

Welcome

I'm an experienced, trauma-informed therapist helping clients heal and rekindle their spirit after difficult experiences. Our goal is not merely to survive, but to thrive in our own unique ways.

I believe that providing a safe space of unconditional acceptance, where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment, is the foundation of good therapy. I will support you, gently and firmly, in telling your story at your own pace, so that I can understand you in your own personal context. From this foundation, we can explore what is bringing you to therapy and establish the focus for your sessions.

First few sessions

Simply having a private space to talk openly with a professional, together with learning some practical tools to manage difficult thoughts and emotions, can often bring a sense of relief. Many people begin to feel calmer, more hopeful, and better able to cope with the challenges of everyday life.

If you enjoy working between sessions, practices such as breathing exercises, journaling, or reading can help support the therapeutic process.

Deciding to face the problem and taking the corresponding action of starting therapy is, in itself, a positive and empowering first step.

Further sessions

It can be valuable to dig a little deeper, to look under the bonnet, so to speak. Together we can explore how past experiences may have shaped core beliefs you have about yourself, other people, and the world. Some of these beliefs may once have protected you but might now be keeping you feeling stuck, anxious, or disconnected.

I find it useful to consider that we each live in our own unique map of the world. Its first priority is keeping us safe. But beyond survival, we want to flourish and enjoy life. We want the ability to relax, smile, and connect more deeply with others.

Unfortunately, in moments of perceived danger, our brain assesses situations instantly, adding oversimplified ‘first draft’ data to our map. It fills in the gaps, expects the worst, and encourages us to avoid anything that feels unsafe. While this survival mechanism serves us tremendously in the moment, moving forward, a lack of nuance leaves us feeling anxious or limited by experiences that belong in the past.

Initially, my goal is to understand your map of the world and help you find a calm, grounded place from which to explore it. Together, we can gently revisit difficult past experiences, step by step, noticing what comes up in the present moment without becoming overwhelmed. As your map becomes more nuanced and flexible, old triggers lose their intensity, painful experiences can be integrated, and life can begin to feel safer, lighter, and more open.

I don’t have all the answers, but I do have some useful questions rooted in proven frameworks, together with a warm and positive energy to guide you in getting where you want to go.

Getting started

It takes courage to face sensitive challenges, to try a new path and take the first steps of seeking a more fulfilling life — but it is life-changing. I am here, holding the door open for you, and I will support you as you walk through it.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
