About me

Holden Place Therapy.  Specialist Therapy for Grief, Loss & Life's Hardest Moments.

A bereavement. A trauma resurfacing. A relationship ending. A career that no longer fits. The strange, disorienting experience of midlife when the person you used to be doesn't quite match the life you're living. These aren't small things, and they deserve more than a self-help book and a brave face.

 Who I work with.

I'm Claire, Founder & Therapist at Holden Place Therapy. I work with people who are often used to coping , who may be the ones others lean on, and who rarely ask for help themselves. People who are good at holding it together, until they aren't. If you've found yourself here, something has probably shifted, and you're ready to actually deal with it rather than push through alone.

What I specialise in.

My particular specialisms are grief and loss, trauma, and the emotional upheaval that midlife can bring , including the profound but often under-acknowledged impact of menopause on identity and wellbeing. I work with both men and women, and find that midlife has a way of making even the most capable people stop and question everything.

 How I work.

Therapy with me doesn't follow a fixed script. I work in an integrative, person-centred way,  which in plain English means that I take my lead from you. What you bring to the room shapes where we go, and how we get there.

Some clients want to talk. Others want to understand patterns, make sense of the past, or find a way to move forward with more clarity. Often it's all of those things at different times. I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and adapt as we go because no two people are the same.

What stays consistent is the quality of the therapy. Warm, confidential, and genuinely without judgement. Clients often say they leave sessions feeling lighter, not because the difficult thing has gone away, but because it has started to make sense.

Getting started.

Get in touch. I'm a registered member of the BACP and work in person in Alderley Edge and Wilmslow, Cheshire, and online with clients across the UK. Evening appointments are available. You can contact me for a complimentary consultation and see if I am the right therapist for you.

If any of this sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to hear from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a BA (Hons) and Level 4 Counselling Diploma. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), which means I work to a strict ethical framework and am committed to ongoing professional development.

My approach is integrative, meaning I draw on a range of therapeutic methods, including person-centred therapy and trauma-informed practice tailored to what feels right for you. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Sessions are collaborative, compassionate and at your pace.

I work with people facing:

  • Bereavement and grief, including the loss of a parent, partner, child, or significant relationship
  • Trauma and its lasting effects on everyday life
  • Emotional wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause
  • Life transitions, identity shifts, relationship changes, questions of purpose and what comes next

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
