About me

I'm a person-centred therapist committed to helping you learn to accept yourself, empowering you to reach your potential, build resilience and develop healthy relationships with yourself and others.

My work focuses on the therapeutic relationship, providing a space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential space.

A lot of my work focused on anxiety and helping individuals to identify the cause and then working together to achieve relief.

A bit about me

I graduated from University in 2008 with a Psychology degree and a desire to deliver animal assisted therapy, however, it was not until some time later that I found my way to counselling. For me it was a lightbulb moment, a vocation that I had been searching for, for the first time I felt I was where I needed to be, no longer having to portray a character that I was not, to survive in the corporate world. Finding out who you really are is incredibly empowering and an opportunity that everyone should have.

After deciding to change careers I did many souls searching, when I returned to my roots of psychology I decided that helping others with their mental health was definitely what I wanted to do, however, I wanted to work holistically, away from diagnosis and medication.

I believe it is vitally important to be flexible and adapt to each individual: as well as being grounded in Person-centred therapy I am able to integrate interventions and perspectives from CBT and Transactional analysis. I also like to work creatively when appropriate, adapting to my client's needs is the main focus of the therapy I offer.

I believe it's beneficial to be in touch with your own physical experience as well as your emotional one, unfortunately this is a connection many of us have lost with how busy our lives are and I can offer guided breathwork to help build that connection.

If you're interested in finding out more about how counselling may help you and what's involved, please get in touch to arrange a free telephone consultation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

It is not always apparent what is behind how someone is feeling until you start to explore this in counselling, it's important to me to work with what you bring and what may transpire during therapy. I have listed above common reasons that people have had for reaching out to me and do not wish to exclude anyone based on this. If I feel it's an area in which you would benefit from specialist help I will be happy to help refer you.

Further information

What to expect from my first therapy session:

First we will begin with a free enquiry call, this lasts about 15 minutes and gives us both the chance to introduce ourselves, I can learn a bit more about you and what you would like to achieve from therapy and importantly, you can ask me any questions you may have and decide whether I am the right fit for you. The therapeutic relationship is key for counselling and it's important that you feel able to connect with your chosen counsellor.

Once we agree to work together we will arrange a mutually agreeable time to have our sessions, if there are no available slots appropriate to you, I will offer to add you to my waiting list until that time becomes available.

First session
Our first session together is a time for you to share what you feel is most relevant to you at that moment, we will start where you feel comfortable beginning.
Counselling sessions, particularly your first session, can be powerful and liberating, clients often feel relief. However, you may discuss things you have never spoken about before or areas that may be very emotional, it's important that you allow yourself time after and between sessions to process and reflect on what has been spoken about and to be able to reintegrate back into the world.
Having a plan for how to take care of yourself after your first session will help, for example taking a walk or having a warm drink can ground you and help bring you back into the here and now.

Walk and Talk therapy

Not everyone is able to sit in a therapy room and engage, sometimes it feels uncomfortable, you may have ADHD, or perhaps you are fed up of sitting in an office all day long. Whatever your reason, having therapy whilst being in nature can enhance the therapeutic experience. To find out more please visit my webpage.
