About me
Welcome. I'm Catherine - a BPS-chartered and HCPC-registered counselling psychologist. I work therapeutically with individuals and couples, and offer comprehensive ADHD assessements.
Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, facing difficult life transitions, carrying the weight of trauma or finding it hard to live authentically. I have almost a decade of clinical experience and doctoral training in a range of therapeutic approaches which allows me to adapt therapy to suit your unique needs, preferences and goals. I offer a holistic, personalised approach designed to support you through challenges and foster meaningful change. My approach is collaborative and insight-oriented, aiming to first understand your current problems so that we can work together to make constructive changes, benefitting you across all areas of your life. The ultimate goal is to empower you with the skills and understanding to maintain your wellbeing long after our work together ends.
At the heart of my practice is a safe, open and trusting therapeutic relationship. I strive to create a space that is warm, empathetic and grounded in authenticity, where you can feel seen and supported. I engage actively with you during sessions, bringing warmth, curiosity, humour, movement or metaphor. I’m not a ‘blank slate’ therapist; I meet you as a fellow human, navigating life just like you.
In addition, I have specialist training in conducting adult ADHD assessments. These assessments are recognised by other professionals, including NHS practitioners. I also work as a BPS-certified clinical supervisor - meaning I supervise and support other mental health practitioners - and facilitate workshops/talks for groups within and outside of psychology fields. I recently presented at the annual conference for the British Psychological Society.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have completed ten years of post-graduate training, studying and working in the field of psychology and psychotherapy, including accredited masters and doctorate degrees. I also have broad experience of clinical practice within different settings, including work in:
- The NHS
- Community mental healthcare
- Academic counselling services
- Mental health charities
On top of my core training, I have also undertaken further training:
- Diploma in CBT
- Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling Level 3
- Certificate in Papyrus Suicidality Training
- Certificate in PREVENT Training
- Certificate in Child Protection in Schools
- Certificate in Clinical Supervision Skills (BPS)
- Certificate in ADHD Assessment and Diagnosis in Adults
I have also conducted research on individuals' experiences of psychotherapy. My doctoral research was awarded 'Outstanding Academic Achievement at Doctoral Level'.
“Your Body Doesn’t Want to Be There”: An IPA Analysis of Sexually Assaulted Women’s Embodied Experiences During Psychotherapy
My doctoral research explored how sexual trauma impacts young women’s relationships with their bodies, predominantly within psychotherapy. This deepened my understanding of how trauma can shape self-image, physical experience and emotional wellbeing. It also informs my sensitive, embodied approach, aiming to support individuals' ability to reconnect with themselves and heal in a personal and affirming way.
"Help is not in a Man's Vocabulary": The Influence of Masculinities on Men's Experience of Therapy
I’ve also researched the unique challenges young men can face in therapy, including barriers created by societal expectations around masculinity. This insight helps me create a safe, supportive space and tailor my work to meet more specific needs.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
