About me

Welcome. I'm Caro, an experienced BACP-registered integrative counsellor working with adults aged 18+.

My practice is currently full. I expect to have some availability from September and welcome enquiries for future sessions.

There are times in life when things can feel overwhelming.

Perhaps you're struggling with anxiety, overthinking, anger, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, family issues, intrusive thoughts, or other mental health challenges.

Maybe you're feeling stuck, burnt out, carrying the effects of a difficult past, or simply thinking that the life that you are living isn't the life you meant to have.

Sometimes talking to friends and family just isn't enough. Therapy can help make sense of the different thoughts, feelings and reactions within you, especially when one part of you wants one thing and another part seems to want something else. Integrative counselling recognises that no single approach works for everyone. I draw on a range of therapeutic ideas and techniques, tailoring our work to you as an individual and what you need at this point in your life.

Counselling with me is confidential, compassionate and non-judgemental. Together, we can help you understand yourself more clearly, develop greater self-trust, and find new ways of responding to life's challenges.

You don't need to prepare anything or behave in a certain way, just come exactly as you are. Together we can explore your experiences, make sense of difficult thoughts and feelings, and better understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

I have particular experience supporting neurodivergent adults, including those with dyslexia, giftedness, and twice-exceptionality, and people exploring or adjusting to a professional identification of autism, ADHD, or AuDHD. I also work with adults carrying the impact of difficult or chaotic childhood experiences.

I work compassionately with trauma, going at your pace and helping you make sense of experiences, emotions, and different parts of yourself in a way that feels safe and manageable.

We can have a chat on the phone if you'd like to take the first step. It's free, lasts about 20 minutes, and gives you a chance to hear my voice, ask any questions, and decide whether I'd be the right therapist for you. There's no pressure or obligation. Message me through here or at my website.

Training, qualifications & experience

Integrative therapy draws on several different therapeutic approaches. In my work I bring a range of perspectives which I weave together flexibly, so the therapy can respond to you and your particular situation.

Experience and Training

  • Counsellor at Iron Mill College, Exeter
  • In private practice in Exeter, Dorchester and online
  • Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling (BACP Accredited).
  • Working safely with OCD, The Integrative Centre for OCD Therapy
  • Working With Children and Young People, BACP
  • Further foundational training, including education in working with trauma, neurodivergence (ADHD and autism), and online therapy.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP 417025) and work in accordance with their Ethical Framework, including monthly supervision with a clinical supervisor.

I am committed to continuing professional development and regularly engage in further training to deepen my understanding of trauma, neurodivergence, attachment, and the ways early experiences shape adult emotional patterns.

I am fully insured, and registered with the ICO (the UK data protection regulator). This means your data is protected and handled properly and lawfully.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

After our initial telephone chat, and before we meet for our first session, I will send you a brief agreement explaining how I work, including confidentiality, privacy, and cancellations. You will also be able to complete your contact details and raise anything you would like clarified before we begin. This is so you know what to expect and to see if you have anything you'd like to discuss further.

Our first session is a space to slow down and take stock. We will explore what has brought you to therapy now, any relevant background, and what you are hoping might feel different over time. I will explain how confidentiality operates, and you are free to ask me whatever you need in order to feel settled and informed.

Choosing a therapist is personal. It matters that you feel at ease and that something about the fit feels right. I offer a free phone call beforehand so you can get a sense of how I am in conversation and whether my way of working feels like a good match.
