About me

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read through my page. I'm a registered psychologist based in Edinburgh, and work from a number of locations across the city. I am originally from South Africa, but have been in the UK since 2016.

I strongly believe in therapy being a collaborative process, and actively work to foster an environment where people feel safe, heard, empowered and nurtured. I strive to draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, to meet the individual needs and experiences of each client. It is particularly important to me to be able to work in a trauma-informed way, being conscious of the impact events and experiences can have across multiple areas of our life.

My main areas of expertise are centered around the processing of childhood abuse, including sexual abuse; domestic violence; and complex trauma in adults. I have also been able to support adolescents with difficulties around relationships and relationship breakdowns; self-harm; working through adoption and foster care; exploring identity; and bullying.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in a number of different settings. In South Africa, I started as a group therapy facilitator in a care home for people who experience psychosis-related mental health difficulties. I also volunteered with The Teddy Bear Clinic - an organisation which provides support to children who have been sexually abused, assaulted, and/or raped.

After moving to the UK, I worked for a short time in a CAMHS service whilst completing my masters degree. I have subsequently worked in a number of different settings, including long-term therapy with children and adolescents; long and short term therapy in domestic violence and rape services (including pre-trial therapy); and trauma-focused NHS services.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
