About me

How are you, really?

It's a simple question, but one we don't always have time - or space - to answer honestly.

Perhaps you're feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed or stuck. Maybe you're dealing with a difficult relationship, a loss or a significant change. Or perhaps you're managing to keep everything going but know that something isn't quite working for you.

You may know exactly what you'd like help with, or simply feel that you're not quite yourself and want to understand why.

You don't need to have it all figured out before you start counselling. You can start with where you are. Counselling offers a space to slow things down, talk honestly and make sense of what's happening, so that together we can explore what might help you move forward.

Who I work with

I work with adults experiencing difficulties including anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, OCD and the effects of trauma. I also support people through difficult life changes and experiences that can be hard to make sense of alone.

If something isn't working for you, or you want things to feel different, that can be enough to begin exploring what is going on.

How I work

I believe therapy can be both supportive and challenging. I want you to feel heard and understood, while also having space to look at things from a different perspective.

I'm a warm, empathetic and straight-talking counsellor. I'll listen carefully, while also asking questions, offering observations and gently challenging something when I think it could help. You'll have space to speak openly and honestly, without judgement, while knowing that I'm actively engaged with what you bring.

I'm attentive to what happens between us in the here and now. The way we relate to one another can sometimes offer useful clues about patterns that may also be playing out elsewhere in your life.

I'm an integrative counsellor, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive and existential approaches. Rather than asking you to fit a particular model, I'll adapt the way we work to you and what you need.

Our past experiences and relationships can influence how we see ourselves, relate to others and cope when life becomes difficult. Exploring these influences can help you develop a clearer understanding of yourself and greater choice in how you respond.

For some people, questions of identity, belonging or feeling different from those around them are an important part of this. Difficult or complicated experiences of faith and community can also be explored without judgement.

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm a BACP registered counsellor and hold a Level 6 Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Inter-Psyche Training Institute, a BACP-accredited training provider.

My training included person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive and existential approaches. I also hold a BA (Hons) in Industrial Psychology.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked across financial services, charities and community wellbeing. In my work in community wellbeing and social prescribing, I supported adults experiencing a wide range of emotional, social and practical difficulties.

My continuing professional development has included training in working with OCD, attachment theory, trauma, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding adults, and online and telephone counselling. I have also attended the online Trauma Healing Through the Senses conference with Dr Bessel van der Kolk.

I participate in regular clinical supervision and ongoing CPD, and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
