About me

Hello, I am Bonnie. I am a bilingual (English/Cantonese), queer HCPC- and BPS-registered Chartered Clinical Psychologist passionate about creating a safe and affirming space. Whether you are struggling with low mood, self-esteem issues, stress, significant life changes, or other challenges in life, I am here to support you with empathy and expertise. With work experience in public health, non-profit, and academic settings in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and Canada, I aim not only to help in distress relief but also to facilitate self-discovery and personal growth that extend beyond the course of therapy.

My therapeutic approach integrates various empirically-supported treatment frameworks. I utilise Narrative Therapy to understand the themes, influences, and rules in your life story; third-wave frameworks like Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to promote wellbeing and value-driven living; attachment theories and psychodynamic principles to explore how your early life and childhood experiences impact your current life. I also incorporate mindfulness and psychoeducation into my practice to help strengthen your ability to be attentive to your mental health and manage your distress.

Understanding the importance of transparency and relatability in therapy, I am open to discussing my intersecting identities if it aids in your search for a suitable therapist. I am conscious of the power dynamics in the therapist-client relationship, and I strive to balance professionalism with genuine warmth and openness. Here, your experiences, cultural influences, and intersecting identities are understood with nuance and humility, and you will be supported as you explore life's varied complexities.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at University College London. My clinical expertise includes supporting individuals of all genders and sexual orientations in addressing a diverse range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, shame or guilt, low self-esteem/self-worth, adverse childhood or early life experiences, interpersonal problems, major life changes, issues related to living with chronic/life-limiting/terminal illnesses.

I also have extensive experience in working with challenges related to living with HIV at one of Europe's largest HIV clinics. Much of my experience has been providing affirmative support to LGBTQ+ identifying adults and young people struggling with their gender, sexuality, and related issues such as discrimination and prejudice, and those undergoing a variety of gender affirmation processes (i.e. managing dysphoria and cultivating gender euphoria).
