About me

I provide therapy to young people and adults in a space that is warm and collaborative. I work with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties and have a particular interest in men’s mental health. My practice is fully inclusive, LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent-affirming. Being a person of colour myself, I understand the importance of cultural competence, of having someone understand your unique cultural background, and can ensure this is what you will be met with at all times.

Drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural approaches, I tailor therapy to suit your individual needs and goals.

What next?

I offer a free, no-obligation introductory consultation which will give me an idea of what’s brought you to therapy, enable you to get a sense of me and ask any questions you may have. You can contact me to schedule an appointment or visit my website, esanpsychotherapy.com, for further information.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Registered Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • Postgraduate Diploma - Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy (Roehampton University)
  • London Foundation Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy
  • BSocSc Social Anthropology (University of Manchester)

As a domestic abuse (DA) specialist also, I work with both victims and perpetrators and bring a nuanced, yet practical understanding of DA be it verbal, physical, emotional, coercive control, sexual or financial.

With foundational training in family therapy and global mental health, I’m sensitive to the role culture and society play when it comes to mental health and seek as much as possible to consider these broader systemic factors.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in journalism and TV production. I bring a gentle curiosity to sessions which encourages clients to tell their story - something I see as being central to the therapeutic process.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
