About me
I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working one to one with adults. I offer a warm, caring, friendly and trustworthy counselling service in Okehampton and online.
Perhaps you are grieving, feeling stuck or struggling to adjust to a change in your life. You may be experiencing anxiety or depression or you may be struggling with a relationship with a partner or parent. Perhaps there is something that happened a long time ago you want to explore in a safe way. I work with whatever is important to you, giving you the space to explore it at your own speed. I am experienced with a wide range of issues including bereavement, health concerns, anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties. I also have an understanding of neurodiversity.
The methods I use in my integrative practice include person-centred, Gestalt, trans-personal and CBT. I also offer creative work; using drawing, imagery or sand play to help you explore more deeply.
You can contact me by email or telephone and I will get back to you to arrange a time to talk on the phone so we can discuss a little about what brings you to counselling and any questions you might have about me. This is free of charge and there is no obligation to book a session. It's important you feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose.
If you would like to book a session, I will take some initial details so I can send you some more information and let you know how to pay. Even after this session you can choose whether or not to book more sessions. You are in control.
I am diversity-aware.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and am a fully qualified counsellor with a CPCAB level 4 diploma in integrative counselling and a CPCAB level 5 advanced diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and appear in their register of counsellors and psychotherapists.
I work within the BACP code of ethics and all of my work is supervised by a qualified supervisor to ensure I can work safely and effectively with clients. I am properly insured for my work and registered for GDPR.
Alongside my private counselling practice I provide counselling in GP surgeries and via a cancer charity. Until recently I volunteered as a counsellor with North Devon Hospice and worked as a social prescriber in a GP practice.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
