About me

Couples and Individual Therapist

Couples may struggle with increased workload, or balance of personal life/ family life/ work and other commitments. It may seem that communication is broken down at times and that "life is taking over". Situations may be complicated and there can be additional issues such as fertility problems/ blended families/ children with complex needs and/ or neurodiversity/ school problems/ bullying/ gender orientation/ self-harm/ disordered eating and so many more that add to the everyday load.

Parenthood

Parenthood can be a challenging phase for all involved. Each developmental stage of a child, or teenager, may come with a set of different difficulties. Additionally, increasingly nowadays, young adult/ adult children may also rejoin the family home. At times this can lead to imbalance and change in the family, or the couple's dynamics. Therapy can be very useful in helping you navigate through any changes, or difficulties, in an effective way.

For couples and individuals life can feel difficult. The problems we face with work, family, children, or parents may lead to anxiety or depression. All that may in turn cause low self-esteem and low self-confidence, as well as problems with sleep and concentration. As a result our relationships usually suffer. Everything can turn to a vicious cycle, where the problems appear unmanageable, leading to high stress levels and constant worry, or interference with our eating and our mood. Life can then be seen as pointless and empty and we may feel lacking direction and motivation, leaving us feeling unable to make decisions.  Other times bereavement, grief or previous trauma leave a long-lasting mark. All these are issues that can be worked through in Counselling.

My practice is informed by considering motivations that are not always obvious. We may examine how the past can inform the present. Sometimes, making links with things that have happened before, can help us understand our current behaviour and perhaps any unhelpful or repeating patterns.

Above all, I will treat you with respect and confidentiality. We will have the opportunity to navigate through your personal landscape in a safe space, directed by your pace and focused on your needs, so that you can fulfil your true potential and be the person that you want.

I work in a safe, quiet and comfortable space in St Albans, Hertfordshire, near the city centre. I also have some availability in Harpenden and can offer sessions online. Everything that will be discussed is confidential. You are free to bring up anything that troubles you, or causes you anxiety, without fear of being judged.

In order to arrange a suitable time to talk, please either send me an email on: annie@annie-therapy.co.uk, or send a message/ WhatsApp on: 07874 211 089. I offer an initial discussion without obligation by phone, or on Zoom. It will hopefully give you an idea of the process and the way I work and we will be able to explore your expectations. If we feel we can work together we can go ahead and book some regular sessions at a later date.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
