About me

My approach

Hello, a warm welcome to my page - I’m Amy. I am a registered Counselling Psychologist. I offer psychotherapy to adults over the age of 16 in the UK.

I primarily work from a humanistic and psychodynamic lens. Whilst creating a safe and containing space, we would explore how early experiences may be impacting your current difficulties.

I am also trained to work using other evidence based models of psychotherapy. Therefore, depending on your needs, this may include models such as Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

What it might look like to work with me

I believe in the power of human connection, and strive to provide an empathic and compassionate connection. I want to meet you where you are at and give you the space to be listened to and understood. You may then be able to begin to make sense of your difficulties and grow.

Having a space with me is collaborative. You are the expert in your own life and your own body. Overtime, we will understand what you want your life to be and look like and that may take time.

I mostly work in an open ended way, which allows for deeper exploration of difficulties that you may experience. However, I also offer time limited therapy, which depending on what you are finding difficult and your own personal circumstances, is something that can be discussed and agreed upon.

What support can I offer

I hope that I can provide a space whereby I can support our understanding of your patterns of relating and behaviour which may be difficult or problematic for you.

I hope to support you to make sense of your experiences throughout your life. I can provide education on how our brains and bodies work in relation to your experiences whilst also helping you figure out any ‘whys?’

I can support you to find better ways to cope that fit with your own needs/wants.

We can bring about changes in the way that you think, feel and behave that can help you live the life that you want.

Why might you want to come to therapy with me

  • Anxiety and overwhelm
  • Low mood/ emotional numbness, shutting off from the world
  • Relationship challenges
  • A sense of feeling disconnected from others and the world
  • Struggling with your own identity/ who you are
  • Endings of significant relationships
  • Grief/ loss
  • Burnout/ emotional exhaustion
  • The impact of trauma, which may be past or present and the symptoms associated such as panic attacks, avoiding specific situations, flashbacks and nightmares
  • Health related difficulties and their emotional impact. E.g Functional Neurological Disorder (FND, that includes Non-Epileptic Seizure Attack Disorder; NEAD).
  • Esteem difficulties. E.g. Low self-esteem/confidence, highly self critical.

Training, qualifications & experience

Further information

I am currently only offering therapy online or by telephone. Evidence suggests that it can be just as therapeutic and effective working in these ways as in person is.

Initial consultation

Reaching out for support can be daunting and confusing. I offer a free 20 minute initial consultation whereby we can explore what might be bringing you to therapy and see if we are a good fit for each other. If we do agree, then we will make a plan of what works for us both and what this might look like, including a therapy contract.
