About me

Choosing a counsellor can feel a little strange, can't it?

You're looking through profiles of people you've never met, trying to work out whether they're someone you could feel comfortable talking to about things you might not have told anyone else.

I'm Amanda, a qualified integrative counsellor based in Marlow, offering face-to-face and online counselling.

You might be struggling with anxiety, finding a relationship difficult, dealing with something painful from your past, or simply feeling that something isn't quite right. Perhaps you're used to being there for everyone else while keeping your own feelings to yourself.

Whatever brings you to counselling, you don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes, having the space to talk and make sense of things is a place to start.

How I work
I work integratively, drawing on different therapeutic approaches, rooted in person-centred and psychodynamic principles, to understand you as an individual.

I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering a space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. We might look at what's happening for you now, or gently explore how past experiences have shaped the way you see yourself and your relationships.

There is no set path we have to follow. We work together at a pace that feels right for you, exploring what matters to you and what you would like to be different.

Taking the first step
I understand that talking to someone new can feel daunting, especially when you're unsure where to begin. You don't need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before you start.

I offer a free, no-obligation 20-minute introductory call by phone or Teams. It's an opportunity to talk a little about what you're looking for and see whether working together feels right for you.

Sometimes, the first step is simply having a conversation.

I’m a qualified integrative counsellor with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
