About me

Trauma, Attachment & Relationship Psychotherapist

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns that seem difficult to change even when you understand them intellectually? Perhaps you’re carrying the impact of trauma, loss, childhood experiences, or relationships that have left you feeling disconnected, uncertain, or not quite yourself.

You may appear capable on the outside while privately struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, shame, burnout, or repeated relational difficulties. If this resonates, you are not alone — and you do not have to navigate it alone.

I am Amanda, a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist based in South West London, working with individuals and couples both in person and online.

Shame dies when stories are shared in safe spaces.

My work focuses on helping you make sense of your emotional experiences in a way that feels safe, grounded, and deeply human. Together we explore the patterns, relationships, and earlier experiences that may be shaping how you feel today, so that meaningful and lasting change becomes possible.

With over seven years’ experience in the NHS, rehabilitation services, and hospices, I have worked extensively with trauma, addiction, bereavement, anxiety, depression, and complex relational difficulties. This background allows me to offer therapy that is both clinically grounded and emotionally attuned.

I offer a relational, trauma-informed approach to therapy, drawing primarily on psychodynamic, attachment-based, CBT-informed and person-centred thinking. Rather than applying a fixed model, I adapt the work to what you need most — whether that is support in the present, or deeper exploration of long-standing emotional patterns.

I commonly support people with:

Trauma and PTSD
Anxiety and chronic stress
Relationship and attachment difficulties
Bereavement and grief
Emotional overwhelm and burnout
Addiction and recovery
Shame and low self-worth
Childhood emotional neglect or relational trauma
Depression and emotional disconnection
Life transitions and feeling stuck

How I work

Therapy with me is a collaborative process. I aim to offer a steady, thoughtful space where you can begin to understand yourself without judgement and at your own pace.

For some people, therapy is about finding relief and stability in the short term. For others, it becomes a longer-term process of understanding deeper emotional patterns and creating lasting change in how they relate to themselves and others.

Both are valid, and we can work in a way that feels right for you.

Working together

I offer:

Individual therapy (short-term and long-term work)
Couples therapy
Online and in-person sessions in South West London

Training, qualifications & experience

I work with individuals and couples experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including trauma, bereavement, addiction, anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties, and complex relational patterns.

My clinical training integrates psychodynamic, attachment-based, CBT-informed, and person-centred approaches, alongside trauma-informed and relational practice. Rather than working from a fixed model, I adapt therapy to the needs of each individual, focusing on both present difficulties and the underlying emotional patterns that may be contributing to them.

A central part of my work involves helping clients understand how past relational experiences and trauma can continue to shape thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in the present — and supporting them in developing greater emotional awareness, stability, and healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

Alongside private practice, I have over seven years’ experience working within NHS services, rehabilitation settings, and hospices, supporting individuals with complex emotional and psychological needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

What is therapy?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are forms of “talking therapies” that offer a safe, structured space to explore your feelings, beliefs, thoughts, and personal history, often including childhood experiences.

The process allows you to reflect on past experiences, understand their impact on your core beliefs, and decide whether they still serve you.

Therapy helps to foster insight into your challenges, promotes understanding of your motivations, and encourages healthier ways to cope and move forward.

Therapists provide:

• A dedicated time and space just for you, where you can openly discuss your concerns, something that might be difficult to do with family or friends.

• Non-judgmental support, actively listening to how you feel and its impact on you and those around you.

• Help in making the changes you want to achieve, and a strong therapeutic relationship to work through challenges together.

• Understanding and respect for how hard it can be to talk about difficult emotions.

Therapy can help with a wide range of issues, including:

• Anxiety, stress, or difficulty focusing. Depression, grief, or feelings of emptiness. Struggles with relationships, mood swings, or low confidence

• Sexual difficulties, self-harm, eating disorders, addictions, and obsessive behaviors

• Dealing with major losses such as bereavement, divorce, or job loss.

• Identity issues, panic attacks, and phobias.

Confidentiality is key in therapy, with everything discussed kept private. However, if there is a serious risk of harm, the therapist may need to involve another professional, with your consent, and this will be discussed at the start of your sessions.

Therapy can be short-term, lasting just a few sessions, or more long-term, depending on your needs. Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes, while couples therapy lasts 60 minutes.
