About me

I am a Counsellor/Psychotherapist and EMDR Accredited Consultant with over 19 years experience in both NHS and private practice.

I offer individual counselling for adults for a wide variety of issues.

I also offer Couples Counselling and EMDR Therapy which is a specialist therapy which can be used to work with Post Traumatic stress Disorder (PTSD or Trauma work) and other issues.

I am an accredited and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I am the Centre Director of Jesmond Therapy Centre where I am based.

The Centre opening times are Monday 2.00pm - 9.00pm, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 - 9pm offering daytime and evening appointments and Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm.  We are closed on a Monday Morning and all day on a Friday.

We provide a non judgmental service from a safe and well established venue. We are easily accessible by public transport, bus stop at the end of the street going to and from the city centre.  We also have free on-street parking and we are a short walk from both Jesmond and West Jesmond metro stations.

All of the different talking therapies such as Counselling (individual, couples, family), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT) and many more are available from Jesmond Therapy Centre.

There is a network of highly experienced and qualified independent practitioners who can offer a wide range of therapies for children, individuals, couples and families.

Several of the therapists, including myself, work with Couples covering issues such as:

Relationship difficulties; Dealing with affairs; Separation; Divorce; Step families and offer guidance on how to deal with children who are experiencing their parents divorce.


We have Bupa, Aviva, Cigna Registered Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Cognitive Behavioural therapists (CBT), Cognitive Analytical Therapists(CAT) , Psychologists, EMDR Therapists and EMDR Consultants and we provide counselling for companies, employees through Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP's) as well as insurance companies.

My Own Personal Experience as a Therapist

I have a Masters Degree in Counselling from Durham University.  I gained my counselling experience by working in GP's surgeries in a NHS Primary Care setting in both Newcastle upon Tyne and North Tyneside, working with clients working with a wide range of different issues. My couples experience was gained through training and working at Relate. I also gained experience of working with different nationalities by working in specialised cross-cultural counselling projects and services. 

I am an EMDR Accredited Consultant with EMDR Europe which means I have considerable experience of working with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety issues, fear, phobias and I supervise other EMDR therapists work.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.


British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Jesmond Therapy centre offers both individual and group EMDR supervision with an EMDR Consultant. This is for EMDR therapists in training and those EMDR therapists who are working towards accreditation and consultancy.

I also offer clinical supervision for counsellors and counsellors in training. Fees for supervision are £60.00 per hour or £80.00 for 1.5 hours a month (as required by BACP).

There is a FREE introductory session for counsellors or trainee counsellors who are looking for supervision and a reduced rate for students in training (negotiable).

We have several EMDR practitioners and I am one of two EMDR Accredited Consultants who work from the Centre.

EMDR stands for "Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing".

EMDR therapy is one of two treatments recommended by The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) and is useful for people who have experienced some form of trauma and are struggling to manage on a day to day basis.

Issues treated include:- childhood trauma/ physical/ sexual abuse, road traffic accidents, overwhelming fears, recurrent night nightmares, panic attacks, phobia, post-traumatic stress disorders, Bereavement, grief, anxiety pain, and depression. We can use specialist EMDR equipment i.e tappers, audio or light bar see below to help clients focus and work more effectively in sessions.
