About me

Psychotherapy for children and grown-ups

About me and how I work:

I am a highly experienced and qualified child, young person, parent and adult psychotherapist and supervisor offering both long and short term therapy in person and online.

  • Psychotherapy for children up to 12 and adolescents and young people from 12 - 30 to address a crisis or explore a particular set of issues. Sessions are usually once weekly.
  • Support for adults/parents/carers. Short or long term support for adults and parents/carers of children/adolescents.
  • I offer supervision and consultation to professionals working with children and adolescents. This work can either be done in person or remotely.

I am experienced in working with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, family issues and low self esteem. I currently work in private practice and for a number of schools supervising child psychotherapists. I also supervise and assess trainee child psychotherapists on the Masters in Child, Adolescent and Family Psychotherapy at CCPE..  For a number of years I worked within an NHS CAMHS team in Barnet with children and adolescents from 5-18 and and parents where I regularly carried out mental health assessments, short and long-term treatment and pre-diagnosis for ASD and ADHD.

I am a sensitive, thoughtful and warm therapist, specifically trained to work with young people and with over twenty five years of experience in working with children, teenagers, young adults and parents. I also work with adults treating both specific issues and more general feelings of discontent.

I do this work because I believe in the value of therapy, as a tool to help you feel better, understand yourself more fully, gain a more positive sense of self and achieve greater wellbeing. For children/teenagers this translates into feeling happier and more able to make friends and focus academically.

I create a welcoming and confidential space in which children, young people and parents are able to relax, talk freely and explore all the things that are concerning them. I have a range of art materials and games in the room, which children may choose to use, since they tend to express themselves through play within therapy.

I also offer therapy sessions to children, young people and adults via video, using creative methods such as art and play.

My main focus is to help you or your child to understand yourself, your situation, relationships, feelings, your internal world. With greater understanding comes more acceptance of yourself and the experience of being able to trust and feel more confident in who you are and the choices you make.

I work with the client, using whichever tools best suit their needs and personality and can use a combination of talking therapy, mindfulness practices, guided visualisation, art and sandplay therapy.

I am also a trained mindfulness teacher for children and teenagers, I have run ten week mindfulness courses with large groups of students and teachers and also bring mindfulness practices into my one to one work.

A little bit more about my experience:

I have worked for over twenty five years with children and young adults. Initially I worked as a psychology teacher and a teacher trainer. I retrained in child, adolescent and family psychotherapy over a decade ago and I am currently working in private practice. I also supervise students on the Masters in Child, Adolescent and Family Psychotherapy at CCPEFor a number of years I worked for the NHS within Barnet CAMHS team (Adolescent Mental Health Services) working with children and adolescents, parents and families throughout primary and secondary schools in Barnet. I was part of a multi-disciplinary team assessing children and carrying out short and longer-term therapeutic work, assessments and pre-diagnosis for ASD, ADHD.

Duration of therapy:

In my work with children I always begin by meeting the parents first for a session and then if the child is not confident the next session is with parent and child. It takes a number of sessions to assess what the issues are and sometimes work is with the parent alone. Generally I work with children and young people longer term, this can be anything from a few months to a year or more. We will assess the therapy as we go, meeting with parents at intervals for parental supervision and re-evaluating how things are and what is needed.

Where I work:

I work either using zoom or I have a home practice in Hampstead Garden Suburb - a 10 minute walk from East Finchley Station (and on several bus routes). There is off street parking.

My room is bright, comfortable and welcoming, with lots of games and art materials for children - and you can be assured of privacy and confidentiality.

Availability: Monday afternoon/early evening, Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday day and evenings.
