About me
Is something bothering you, and do you feel it would help to talk to someone about it?
Maybe something has happened that has affected you in a way that you didn’t expect.
Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, and unable to cope.
Maybe you are interested in talking to someone to explore where you are in your life or why you react as you do.
I would be happy to meet you and talk. This could be for just a few weekly sessions to look at a specific area of difficulty. Or we might meet for a few months or on a longer term basis to gain a deeper understanding of you and your own situation.
Training, qualifications & experience
It was my own experience of receiving therapy that made me interested in becoming a counsellor myself. So I studied for a Postgraduate diploma in Counselling at the University of Birmingham, awarded in 2007, then went on to complete an MA in 2010. Before this I had worked as an archaeologist, and I am still involved in heritage management. I worked as a Counsellor at the NHS Integrated Psychology and Psychotherapy Service in Wolverhampton from 2006 to 2011. I have practiced Tai Chi and meditation for many years, and find both very helpful in my work and my life.
My first training was in psychodynamic counselling, but I now work in a more integrative style, incorporating other techniques as relevant to the needs of each client.
I subsequently completed an MA in Mindfulness-based Psychotherapeutic Practice at the Karuna Institute in Devon. I have qualified as an accredited Mindfulness-based Core Process Psychotherapist.
I am an Accredited Registered member of BACP - MBACP (Accred), Register no 48433.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
