Judy James, Counsellor & Relationship Coach; EFT* Emotionally Focused Therapist
Wilmslow Therapy Practice
What I can help with and how:-
Are you looking for a way to resolve upset and unhappiness in your relationship?
Maybe you feel overwhelmed by too many worries and exhausted by stress and pressures in your life?
Whether your aim is to break unhelpful habits, find solutions to problems or improve work-life balance, what I offer is more than just talking sessions.
With care and compassion I will be your thinking partner and guide you to discover that small changes can make a big difference to the way you feel about yourself, your situation and relationships.
I am dual-trained and qualified both as a Coach and as a Counsellor-Therapist; this means working in a solution, future-focused way, as well as attending to any worries or feelings left from past events. I am dedicated to this coach-therapy approach because it brings long-lasting relief, not just a temporary fix. It provides direction and support for you to find new ways and personal strengths to improve well-being; this is particularly effective for:-
- relationship difficulties
- anxiety and low mood
- obsessive behaviours and compulsive thoughts
- loss of confidence, identity and self-esteem
For couples and relationships of all kinds:-
I welcome you and your partner to come along together, or occasionally individually, so that we can work with the clarity that an objective perspective can bring. My professional approach - Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, has a high success rate in overcoming set-backs and difficulties by regaining connection, closeness, trust and a sense of partnership in the relationship.
“How come we love each so much yet tend to argue, say hurtful things and fight so much?”
If that question has resonance for you and your partner, or if your relationship has become stressful to the point that you feel distressed, then you may well be interested in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Unlike traditional forms of couple counselling, EFT is a structured, usually short-term, collaborative approach that supports each partner to learn new ways to communicate and relate to each other. EFT is a process of creating connection, guiding you through a change process to resolve any upset, pain and hurt, and supporting you to re-build the relationship on a solid foundation which feels safe, respectful and connected.
Based on the pioneering work of Dr Sue Johnson and her study of the science of love and attachment theory, EFT is well-researched. Studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements in healing their relationship, making it stronger and more secure.
Something else you need to talk about or work through?
There’s no limit to the range of topics that can be explored through counselling and therapeutic coaching, so why not take the first step? There’s no charge for an initial consultation, so feel free to text, phone or email to arrange a time that’s good to talk.

Fees for counselling: There is a scale of charges dependent on venue, time of day, duration, single or block bookings, type of therapy etc, but fees are negotiable and an important topic to discuss and agree during an initial consultation. Choosing the right therapist and agreeing a way of working that best suits you and your needs are important steps at the start of the process. I understand how crucial it is for the person to feel that that they can talk openly in a supportive, non-judgmental, confidential environment; that's why I offer and make no charge for an initial first meeting at which all these important factors can be freely discussed.
For Workshops and Seminars: Full details of prices, venues and content are available on request. See the Further Information section of this profile for a summary list of topics. I also welcome your enquiry if you would like to mix-and-match or include other aspects of personal or professional development so that a workshop is designed exclusively to meet the needs of your organisation or team.
For students of counselling and psychotherapy I provide sessions to fulfill the Personal Therapy element of course study and qualification.
From time to time I run workshops and seminars to raise awareness of
- EFT - Creating Connection: Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
- Working with the self and self-constructs
- Brief solution-focused interventions
- Coaching clients to work through their feelings
- Alternative approaches: the integration of coaching with counselling or psychotherapy – exploring the similarities, differences, benefits and results
