Profile

Counselling and Psychotherapy with experienced therapist. Together will we find your strengths and options to feel more whole, or move forward. You may be facing a personal crisis or difficulty. You may feel engulfed by powerful feelings such as anger or sadness. You may feel that your life has drifted and you need to make a decision or change direction. You may feel overwhelmed, depressed or lacking in confidence. You may be facing a difficult relationship decision. I hope to work alongside you in whatever you feel you need support with.My approach is relational: combining humanistic core values with psychodynamic thinking about the the influence of early experiences. I emphasise the value of a trusting therapeutic relationship in promoting personal growth and empowerment. I offer a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings with somebody who will not judge you. I offer you the opportunity to be listened to repectfully and to feel understood and accepted. I will aim to help you move towards feeling more confident and develop vitality in the ‘here and now’ rather than being bound by your past.
I will aim to work in a way that helps you to feel safe to explore difficult feelings at your own pace.

Creative Arts
Sometimes words are not enough and therefore I also offer an creative arts-based practice for clients who would like to work in this way. By representing our feelings symbolically we can explore areas that we may not feel able to talk about. This can maximise the possibility of change and healing. You do not need to be good at art!

    Further Information

    Child and Adolescent Counselling.
I also offer a specialist service for working with children and young people. I have ten years experience of working therapeutically with children including working for the NSPCC, working with a Looked After Children's Service and working as a Schools Counsellor in primary and secondary schools. I also lecture on Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling Courses at The Faculty of Education, Cambridge University

Children naturally use stories, symbols and play to express their thoughts and concerns. For children and young people I offer a play or arts based approach using sand tray work with miniature figures and animals, clay, paint as well puppets and mask making.

I aim to create a safe space to help children express and make sense of difficult or powerful feelings that may be troubling them or causing them to feel isolated or stuck. Once these scary feelings can be looked at, understood and managed often children and young people can begin to let go of old coping strategies that may be holding them back or limiting their opportunities to make good friends or enjoy life to the full.
