What I bring to Supervision: I practise the Seven-Eyed Supervision model, developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet in 1985, combining the IDM (integrative development model (Stoltenberg and McNeil). I think outside the box, helping supervisees explore client work in detail, what's really happening within the processes for the client, supervisee, for me the supervisor and the wider context. Tapping into my own experience and knowledge, offering a good understanding of the levels at which supervisees operate and their requirements.
Supervision is a dynamic collaborative and positively challenging process, ensuring the best possible outcomes clients and good counselling practise.
My qualifications and experience: I'm a qualified Person-Centred Therapist, additionally I hold a qualification in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), I work holistically with clients, offering person centred therapy with the option of a more integrative approach, utilising various interventions such as alternative thinking, confidence building, grounding, mindfulness, breathing techniques, and methods to help cope with trauma, such as the rewind technique for PTSD. Recently set up a private practice and have a small case load of clients, I also work for a local counselling agency, and employed by a mental health charity, I have a number of years' experience supporting people with various mental health issues, such as: general anxiety, bereavement, complex PTSD, depression, self-harm, OCD, hoarding, domestic abuse, alcohol and drug misuse, psychosis and dissociative disorders.
My work includes a role within a focused crisis service "sanctuary" supporting people with suicidal ideation / intent, referred by the local mental health crisis team, police and paramedics, the work involves face to face, talking and listening support, de-escalation and sign posting, avoiding 136 section. Also trained as DNA Trim practitioner (Trauma Risk Management), this is a proactive, peer delivered, cognitively based human resource management initiative for supporting individuals following exposure to traumatic events. Its purpose is the early identification of the symptoms of stress. I have 20 years' experience as a qualified traditional Hatha Yoga teacher, with the ability utilise a variety of practises such as: Asanas (postures), relaxation, breathing techniques, and spiritual philosophy. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
