Supervision details
I am an experienced Supervisor, using an integrative approach to support other professionals, volunteers, students, or anyone who works in a role where support and Counselling form part of what you do.
Supervision is vitally important for any Counselling provider, not only to protect your own well-being in what can be a very difficult and exhausting (though incredibly rewarding) role, but also to ensure that you are providing a safe, supportive service within the boundaries and full legal protection of the industry we are in.
Regular supervision brings education, advice, guidance, support, the opportunity to process your own needs, and a vital protection against any potential claims of misconduct, inappropriate communication or difficulties that may arise from client interactions. Though not every professional body requires regular Supervision, I strongly maintain that - ethically, legally and professionally - it ought to be a legal requirement, not just a recommendation, as it protects and benefits both Counsellors and our clients more effectively.
I am a specialist in addiction issues, and in the therapeutic rehabilitation of offenders - particularly those accused of, charged with, being investigated for or impacted by sexually inappropriate behaviours. I am registered by STOPSO and ATSAC for this area of my work.
This specialised work is balanced by other subject areas that may present, for both supervisees and clients alike - and my many years of professional experience are, of course, supported by my own ongoing learning and development in the most up to date therapeutic methods, and a commitment to my own Professional Supervision.
The function of Counselling Supervision is to give a supportive, educational and person-centred focus on you - the supervisee. This ensures that those offering any kind of Counselling can process any issues discussed with clients, whether that's supporting someone through traumatic events, your own emotional responses, any triggers that may arise in client work, and helps to reduce the impact this work may have on your own wellbeing.
It's also an excellent way to hear different perspectives, and a chance to discuss alternative approaches that may benefit your clients. There are times where we find ourselves too close to the problem, as it were, and this added perspective can help you to explore a wider range of therapeutic approaches, the processes within your own client work, your professional performance, and to explore further possibilities for your own ongoing development.
I lean toward Inskpip and Proctors formative, restorative and normative domains of practice in my Supervision work, as I find this the most effective way to achieve understanding within the supervisee's practice. This assists the development of the reflective practitioner, to maximise the effectiveness of any therapeutic relationship, and safeguards the interest of both the clients and the practitioner. I also support the exploration of CPD opportunities, to further grow your knowledge and understanding.
I offer these Supervision sessions in person, from my comfortable, safe and private consulting rooms in Long Load Nr Martock, or - if preferred - by WhatsApp, Video calls and Telephone.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
