About me

Hello - my name is Amanda, and I'm an experienced Counsellor with many years of working in both public and private clinics. I also offer Counselling Supervision for others who are seeking professional support, whether that's for training, volunteer roles or their own professional Counselling work.

I have a beautiful, safe, comfortable space for in-person sessions, but can also work virtually, offering phone, Video and WhatsApp sessions, if you aren't able or comfortable with face-to-face, and I offer a free, no obligation 10 minute introductory call so we can get to know each other a little and discuss what you're looking for, and if we are a good fit.

Counselling can be a very intense and challenging process - and can bring up a range of difficulties, past traumas, anxiety and memories in need of processing. I often see that the initial reason someone is seeking support leads to a totally different conversation, once the Counselling process has begun - so I tailor my approach to suit the individual before me, adapting to meet those changing needs, and using a combination of therapeutic techniques.

Your well-being, and you finding peace, confidence and strength, is my top priority; I provide a judgement free, confidential opportunity for you to explore what difficulties brought you to seek support, safely and comfortably. Together, we work through your past experiences, the way your thoughts and feelings shape your current and instinctive behaviours, and how you navigate to a happier, healthier future.

My role is as your guide, your champion and your safety net. Counselling doesn't mean being told what to do, it's a tool to help you unravel your own thoughts; to make sense of disruptions in your life and mental health, and to explore the strength and capability you have within you. We work together towards your healing, your self-compassion, and to build the resilience and positive outcomes that will protect you from repeating negative patterns, or from past pain impacting your today.

I also offer Counselling Supervision, a vital process for anyone working as or training to be a Counsellor - including those in other service roles, voluntary roles or any situation in which they provide counselling, listening or support. Protecting your own well-being is hugely important, as any Counselling work comes with emotional responses, dealing often with traumatic or troubling experiences in the support we offer. Supervision not only gives you space to process these issues, it can also give helpful guidance, advice and support that you can use to support your clients. Perhaps there are techniques you haven't considered, or therapeutic approaches that can benefit you and your clients. Counselling requires a constant journey of learning and evolving - and professional supervision gives you the tools for this, as well as your own safe space to process the work you do.

My work - both as a Counsellor and as a Supervisor - is rooted in Integrative Counselling, meaning that I bring together a range of different techniques, models, learning and guidance, to ensure that every person is given the right support, and tailoring the time we spend together to meet your specific needs.

This integrative approach includes:

Inskipp and Proctors supervision model
Person Centred Therapy (PCT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)
Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)                                                                    Offender Rehabilitation both pre and post sentence.                                     Client approved collaboration with Probation Services, Social Services, Forensic Psychologists, Legal team's

Mindfulness and Grounding
Relaxation and Breathing Techniques

I can help you with depression, panic disorders, low self esteem, anxiety, stress and any concerns around addictive behaviours and toxic relationships. I support you through bereavement, loss and trauma. I also work with those accused of, charged with or being investigated for inappropriate sexual behaviours.

As a Supervisor, Inskip & Proctors  'normative, formative, and restorative' approach means I am there to assist the supervisee to view issues from this lense. I offer guidance and education, guiding your towards self management within your own practice, growing in knowledge, experience and confidence, helping you to provide therapeutic work to the very best ethical and professional standard.

I hope that gives you enough information about whether I'm the right choice for you - but please do send me a message or call me if you would like to discuss anything, if you have any additional questions, or if you simply need someone to talk to.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
