This half-day workshop and seminar is a preliminary introduction to trauma-informed care for practitioners and organisations that provide counselling, psychological and mental health services.

Presentation and group discussions will provide an overview of:

  • adverse childhood experiences and inter-personal trauma.
  • recognising signs and symptoms of unprocessed traumatic experiences.
  • hallmarks of best practice in trauma-informed care; the fundamental principles.
  • addiction, suicide, and domestic abuse through a trauma-informed lens.
  • systemic traumatic stress; preventing re-traumatisation for the individual and secondary trauma for the practitioner.

'As the movement to raise awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) has progressed in the UK over the last few years, we have seen the emergence of trauma-informed schools, trauma-informed policing and probation services, trauma-informed dentists, and other health services. This workshop and seminar is an invaluable introduction to trauma-informed practices for individuals in the counselling professions and for mental health service providers'.

Learning outcomes include valuable guidance on signposting and how to provide interim support for individuals presenting with indicators of unprocessed trauma. This workshop is not intended to train or qualify counsellors to provide trauma treatments.
