Four day foundation training in emotionally focused couples therapy with Scott Woolley, PhD, EFT trainer and supervisor.

Registration open - go to www.eftinternationalschoollondon.com for more info and to register.

Many therapists find working with couples challenging. They struggle to find an approach that offers effective help to couples facing distress in their relationships and gives therapists a clear guide through the confusing drama of couple conflict. Dr. S. Johnson has pioneered emotionally focused therapy for couples that is rigorously researched and based upon a science of adult love and attachment. EFT recognises that marital discord arises from the threat to basic adult needs for safety, security and closeness in intimate relationships. The EFT change process has been mapped into a systematic sequence and framework that restructures the interactional patterns that maintain marital conflict.

The externship in EFT is a a pre-requisite for advanced core skills training and EFT certification.

General objectives of the externship

Participants will:

  • Learn to conceptualise couple distress and relationship repair based on theories of attachment and emotion.
  • Obtain a clear understanding of the basic experiential and systemic concepts of an emotionally focused approach to couples therapy.
  • Learn the steps and stages of the model, interventions most commonly used, and how to work with the couple's vulnerability by deepening affect and tracking their underlying interactional pattern.
  • Develop skills in helping partners reprocess the emotional responses that maintain relational distress, shape new interaction patterns and bonding events and to overcome therapeutic impasses with couples.

Before the start of the externship participants are strongly encouraged to read Dr S. Johnson book Practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy. Creating Connections (2004), the basic text of EFT.

Who should attend?
