Workshop description

Are you a therapist or wellbeing worker with a professional interest in helping clients regulate emotions/manage situations/relationships better? Maybe you have heard a great deal about DBT skills yet have no time to enrol in a full course? Or do you want to find out more before you sign up for a broader/longer course? Perhaps you wish to expand your knowledge base.

In this introductory workshop dialectical behavioural therapy is presented in a semi-structured format that combines psychoeducation with a lively, interactive facilitated skills session that may be right for you.

The 90-minute Introduction to DBT will focus on essential DBT skills in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.

Starting as a standalone workshop on April 8th 2024 there will be further events throughout the year.

Primary objectives:
As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to describe the key elements of DBT skills training.

Learning objectives:
As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the meaning and uses of ‘dialectics’ in DBT skills training.
  • Understand the aims of the four DBT skills modules.
  • Learn how DBT skills can help in your client's work.
  • Identify opportunities for using DBT skills in your client's work.
  • Identify key strategies and procedures required for effective DBT work.
