An introduction to DBT skills for therapists
Workshop description
Are you a therapist or wellbeing worker with a professional interest in helping clients regulate emotions/manage situations/relationships better? Maybe you have heard a great deal about DBT skills yet have no time to enrol in a full course? Or do you want to find out more before you sign up for a broader/longer course? Perhaps you wish to expand your knowledge base.
In this introductory workshop dialectical behavioural therapy is presented in a semi-structured format that combines psychoeducation with a lively, interactive facilitated skills session that may be right for you.
The 90-minute Introduction to DBT will focus on essential DBT skills in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
Starting as a standalone workshop on April 8th 2024 there will be further events throughout the year.
Primary objectives:
As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to describe the key elements of DBT skills training.
Learning objectives:
As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the meaning and uses of ‘dialectics’ in DBT skills training.
- Understand the aims of the four DBT skills modules.
- Learn how DBT skills can help in your client's work.
- Identify opportunities for using DBT skills in your client's work.
- Identify key strategies and procedures required for effective DBT work.
- Acquire information on key DBT literature sources - books and online.
Whilst attendance at this workshop is expected to enhance clinical work, this introductory workshop will not equip you to deliver full DBT as a therapy.
Experience & specialisms
I am a London-trained, BACP-registered Psychodynamic Psychotherapist with 14+ years of experience in addiction, DBT, trauma and couples/relationship therapy. I have extensive experience in teaching, training and lecturing in DBT as well as working with DBT in one-to-one/couples and group sessions with clients.
