About me

Hello, I’m Yvonne, an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I offer individual counselling for young people and adults, in person in Keighley, West Yorkshire, or on-line.

Life is tough – and can sometimes feel impossible. I can offer you space and time to talk and be listened to, supportively and without judgement.

At the heart of my practice is a person-centred approach, using empathy, honesty and understanding, but I integrate a variety of therapeutic styles to suit you. There is no one size fits all – you and your circumstances are unique.

If you feel ready to explore what has led to your difficulties, then I am ready to help you understand them and together we can work towards positive change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have more than twenty-five years’ experience of working with young people in secondary and further education in various roles, most recently as a Counsellor. I understand first-hand the pressures that this presents both for young people and the adults supporting them.

I have a particular and personal interest in neurodiversity and the associated challenges that face this marginalised group. My experience is much more widespread however, and I have supported young people and adults through a variety of challenges, such as the impact of trauma, anxiety, self-harm and loss.

I have a PG Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy with distinction and, as a registered member of the BACP, I follow their ethical guidelines.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Counselling for young people:

I understand that traditional talking therapy may feel intimidating for you. My focus is on creating a welcoming, confidential space in which you feel safe enough to share any worries or difficulties that you may have. We can then take time to talk about and/or work creatively on these issues, always at your pace.

You are the priority; we’ll find a way to work together that is most comfortable for you.

Counselling for adults:

I truly believe in the power of being given the time to talk and be listened to – it can be transformative. Whatever is on your mind, I am here to listen, confidentially and without judgement, to help you find a way through. If talking alone feels too difficult, then we can also work creatively to discover a process that works for you.

My style is always bespoke; you are one of a kind and your therapy needs to reflect this.
