About me

Hi, I'm Xin Liu, a BACP-registered therapist offering online counselling for adults across the UK.

If you've arrived at this page, you may be going through a difficult time. Perhaps you're facing challenges in your relationships, navigating life transitions, or questioning long-held beliefs about yourself and the world around you. Whatever has brought you here, reaching out for support can take courage, and you don't have to face these challenges alone.

I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where we can explore your experiences at your own pace. I believe that feeling genuinely heard and understood can create the foundation for meaningful change. Together, we can explore difficult emotions, recognise patterns that may no longer serve you, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

I have experience working across charity-based and other counselling services, supporting clients from diverse backgrounds and age groups through both short-term and longer-term therapy. My approach is relational and trauma-informed, drawing on different therapeutic perspectives to meet your individual needs. I pay particular attention to how past experiences, relationships and cultural backgrounds may shape the way you see yourself and relate to others. I also value working creatively and with bodily awareness, and where appropriate, we may explore experiences beyond words through approaches such as drawing, visualisation or noticing bodily sensations.

Having grown up in China and moved to the UK as an adult, I have personal experience of navigating different cultures, changing career paths, and exploring what feels meaningful and fulfilling in life. These experiences have shaped my particular interest in cross-cultural identity, belonging and difference, life transitions, relationships and complex trauma.

I recognise that language can be deeply connected to how we experience ourselves and the world. If you feel more comfortable expressing yourself in your first language, I offer counselling in both English and Mandarin Chinese (普通话).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

What happens next

If you feel that we might be a good fit, please get in touch and share a little about what brings you to counselling. I will respond with my current availability, and we can arrange a time for an initial session. Once confirmed, I will send you a Zoom link and a short initial assessment form to complete beforehand.

Our initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, explore what you are hoping to gain from counselling, and see whether working together feels right for you. The session lasts 50 minutes and costs £50.

There is no obligation to continue afterwards. If you decide to continue, we can arrange regular sessions at a pace that suits your needs.
