About me
I qualified as a psychotherapist in 2021, during the peak of the COVID restrictions. Prior to this, I had spent 17 years working in a corporate environment, and, given the financial uncertainty at the time, it was challenging to step away from the security of a salaried job. However, I couldn’t ignore my deep calling to support mental health—especially after experiencing childhood trauma myself and undergoing a transformative healing journey. I felt driven to make a meaningful impact, reaching out to those who truly needed the support I could offer.
I made a bold decision to reset my life—leaving behind my corporate job and financial security to establish Tanourish Counselling. I now offer online sessions and also have access to a private room in Plymouth, which I can book by the hour for in-person sessions.
I take a person-centred, integrative approach to therapy, meaning I don’t focus on just one specific theory. Instead, I draw on a range of modalities and approaches to best suit you as an individual. I work with a variety of issues, including loss and bereavement, self-esteem, self-harm, PTSD, anger management, ADHD, habit and behaviour change, depression, relationship difficulties, guilt and shame, as well as trauma and emotional wounds plus many more.
Empathy, congruence, and compassion are the foundational principles that guide everything I do in counselling.
Here is a recent testimonial from a client.
"My first session with Tanya came after really struggling with anxiety, almost every minute of every day. I had been prescribed anti-anxiety medication by my GP and advised to seek counselling. I was struggling with pressures from work as well as the ones I was setting for myself. Tanya has helped me understand and recognise my triggers and given me helpful ways to avoid and overcome them. I am no longer on medication and feel more confident in the decisions I am making; I really don’t know where I would be without the support these sessions have given me."
