About me

I am a qualified counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I trained in Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis (TA), an integrative approach to psychotherapy grounded in humanistic philosophy.

I have experience supporting adults aged 18 and over in an NHS GP practiceand a community outreach setting, working with a broad range of presenting difficulties, including anxiety, depression, burnout, bereavement, relationship difficulties, chronic illness and significant life changes.

I also have a background in research and teaching in medical schools, which has given me insight into the pressures of academic and professional life. This includes the challenges faced by undergraduate and postgraduate students, academics and other professionals, such as managing uncertainty, competing demands and maintaining a balance between work and personal life.

My Approach

My approach is evidence-informed, drawing on psychological research into what works in counselling while remaining attentive to your particular needs and circumstances. I aim to support you in exploring your experiences, understanding yourself more deeply and working towards changes you would like to see in your life.

Transactional Analysis explores how we communicate and relate to others, and how earlier experiences can shape patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that continue to influence our lives today. Becoming aware of these patterns can create opportunities for change and growth.

My work is also informed by an understanding of trauma, and I draw on Gestalt techniques where these may be helpful, particularly in bringing attention to what is happening in the present moment and exploring feelings and experiences.

I have a longstanding interest in the positive effects of nature on emotional wellbeing, including the psychological benefits of birdsong, which I have explored through my own research. I am particularly interested in how noticing the patterns, colours and sounds of nature can promote positive emotions, reduce stress and offer a restorative pause from everyday life. I bring this understanding into my counselling practice to support reflection, awareness and emotional wellbeing.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
