About me
Hi, I am Susie, a friendly counsellor/psychotherapist who has experience of working with a diverse range of clients within a confidential environment. For me, the heart of counselling is a good relationship between client and counsellor. This helps to create a safe and respectful setting for exploration, reflection and understanding of what is important to you. As we are all individual and unique, people will naturally need different things from counselling. I use an integrative, person-centred approach which means that we can work together in a way which best suits you, drawing from different techniques which will support you through the process. I will help you to reflect and explore to find your own solutions and your own methods of overcoming challenges. In our sessions, my main priority is to cultivate an environment where you feel truly heard, valued, and empowered. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where we work side by side to identify and pursue your unique goals. My approach is all about creating a secure, supportive and non-judgemental space, allowing you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that feels comfortable for you.
I have previously been involved in Education for 26 years, so have many years of experience with teachers and young people. I currently work therapeutically, two days in a school with young people from ages 7 to 19. I also have my own private practice which is predominantly with adults, but I do work with children from age 12 in private practice. When available, I have been fortunate to have been involved with the BACP Expert Reference Group for Children and Young People which has given insight into good practice.
In addition to this, I work as a consultant for Mindler, which is an online mental health organisation who provide psychotherapy for NHS referrals and Vitality health insurance.
I also have experience of working with neurodivergent (ND) clients and I have recently completed a Level 3 in autism. This has helped me in my approach to working with ND clients and also in helping clients understand their relational patterns with others and how to get their needs met. I have also supported LGBTQAI+ clients who have explored mental health challenges. My training and clinical experience have supported people with anxiety, trauma, bereavement, OCD, loss of identity, low self-confidence, suicidal ideation, struggles with relationships both with self and others (this is not a comprehensive list). Please reach out if you have got this far.
Training, qualifications & experience
All sessions last an hour (except U18 are 50 minutes) and will be face to face (from my clinic in Selby, North Yorkshire), by telephone or online via Teams. I believe that it is essential to have a good working relationship. This is about you feeling comfortable and that we can work collaboratively together moving forward. The first session will be a chance for us to ascertain what you would like from the sessions, and we will complete some aspects that will hold a safe space for you. If you choose to book in a session, I will send out an assessment form and consent form. I encourage clients to book weekly or block book the sessions so there is continuity in our work. I can do both short and long-term work, and we will go at your pace and gauge how you feel as we progress. We will agree to a working contract to ensure that I am working professionally and abide by the BACP ethical framework for good practice which states that a contract should be in place before work commences. The key is that you feel comfortable, and we can form a positive therapeutic relationship where you feel heard in the space we have together.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I have also worked with women experiencing the menopause who have lost their sense of self. We can explore emotions and feelings that you may be experiencing from loss of confidence to confusion over what direction life should take. We can use a range of methods to unpick what you are looking for. I also have a specialist interest in anxiety for adults and young people.
