About me

I re-trained as a counsellor because I got so much out of the counselling I received in the past.  Throughout my training and consequent work I have been in awe of and honoured by the the clients I have worked with.

Searching for the right counsellor for you can seem a daunting prospect. How do you know you can trust them, that they will believe you and won’t judge you? Because we work to an ethical standard that protects you. A friend may offer advice and opinions; a counsellor listens, empathises and works with you to explore your thoughts and feelings, without judgement to help you have a better understanding of yourself.

I work in a person-centred way and this means we would work collaboratively at your pace. I neither judge nor direct, but will listen with compassion and empathy when life’s challenges call for someone calm and objective to truly listen to you. I will do my best to help you find a way through what is getting in the way of you living the life you want.

Life can sometimes be overwhelming, and seeking help might look like admitting defeat, but it can be a brave step towards learning about yourself and seeing a way through to reducing your concerns and worries. I listen with my heart and counsel with my knowledge and experience, in a non-judgemental and safe environment, which can be on the phone, online or in person. I work from a cabin separate from the house, where we cannot be overheard.

I work with adults of all ages and help them explore their issues, however, those issues have arisen, specialising in bereavement and sexual violence.

A complete match between client and counsellor is not possible but I’ve worked extensively in offices and in the arts, I’ve lived overseas and I know what it’s like to love an alcoholic.

What to expect in your first session

During our first session, we might explore your expectations and hopes for the work, whether we work to a specified number of sessions or an open-ended contract and whether we both feel we are a good match to work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m a qualified person-centred therapist with a Level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling, and I hold a Bachelor of Counselling degree.

Through my volunteer work with Northamptonshire Rape Crisis and Cruse Bereavement Care, I have undertaken specialised training in sexual violence and bereavement, and continue to do so. I have also worked with Wellbeing in the Arts, who provide low-cost counselling to those who work in the arts industries.

Please feel free to email me with any queries you might have or to arrange a first session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
