About me

For full information about my practice please visit my website: www.whitestonetherapy.com

I work with adults facing a wide range of personal, professional and psychological difficulties - from periods of anxiety, stress or feeling stuck, through to more complex or longstanding issues that feel hard to work through alone. I also work with couples on a limited basis.

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Some are dealing with a specific issue or moment of crisis; others are trying to understand patterns that have been playing out for years. You don’t need to have everything clearly defined before starting - part of the work is making sense of what’s going on.

I work with a broad range of difficulties and situations. Some people come for a focused period of work around a particular issue; others choose longer-term therapy to understand things more deeply.

Over time, I have found that my work tends to centre on thoughtful and capable adults who may appear to be coping well on the surface but experience recurring relational insecurity, chronic self-doubt, or longstanding patterns that feel resistant to change despite insight. I am particularly interested in entrenched relational patterns, attachment-related difficulties, obsessive or over-mentalising styles, and the longer-term effects of early emotional separation, including boarding school experiences.

My approach is formulation-led: we work to understand how your particular pattern developed, how it sustains itself, and what maintains it now. This allows us to focus either on lasting psychological change or on immediate practical challenges, depending on what you need.

I offer professional and confidential psychotherapy and counselling in Shoreham-by-Sea and surrounding areas in Sussex, as well as online therapy for clients throughout the UK and internationally.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred) and a Fellow of the British College of Therapeutic Professionals (FBCTP). I also hold a BPS-accredited Certificate in Clinical Supervision (CSAccred). I am the author of Moral Singularity: Life Inside Closed Moral Worlds and Why Moral Conversation Breaks Down (2026).

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Integrative Counselling & Coaching and a Master’s degree (MSc) in Psychotherapy, both awarded with distinction.

My clinical approach is integrative, drawing on cognitive, relational and depth-oriented traditions. This allows us to focus either on lasting psychological change or on immediate practical challenges, depending on what you need.

I have a particular interest in working with entrenched relational patterns, attachment-related difficulties, obsessive or over-mentalising styles, and the longer-term effects of early emotional separation, including boarding school experiences.

I undertake regular professional training and clinical supervision in line with ethical and professional requirements.

Alongside clinical work I also practice as a clinical supervisor and write on psychotherapy and contemporary moral culture.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I offer a confidential and professionally grounded space in which to explore your situation and develop a clearer understanding of yourself and the patterns shaping your life.

I typically work in an open-ended way, with regular review of progress, and also offer time-limited work where appropriate.

Sessions are available in person in Shoreham-by-Sea and online.

If I believe I’m not the best fit for you, or that a colleague may have more appropriate expertise, I will say so and, where possible, suggest alternatives.
