About me

My 20 year career in the NHS as an Intensive Care Nurse has provided me with a lived experience of the challenges such a role brings and the personal impact it can have on an individual. In recent years I have realised the aspect of my job I value the most is creating the space to be with and talk with people, and I am privileged to witness the positive effects this has.

I also appreciate the significant demands our 21st century lifestyle places upon us and the often unrealistic standards we can impose both on ourselves and our relationships. This can leave little time for selfcare and reflection. Non-judgmental support, connection and the ability to be truly heard can increasingly be missing in our lives and counselling can provide this, within a secure and supportive environment.

My approach to Counselling is Integrative which means I bring different elements of specific therapeutic approaches together to suit your individual needs and circumstances. For example, you may wish to seek help with anxiety, or maybe you are experiencing a major life transition such as divorce or bereavement. Together, we can explore your concerns and areas of difficulty within a time frame that works for you.

I am approachable and down to earth and will offer space where you are valued, listened to and accepted without judgement. I am passionate about my work and I believe the counselling relationship is essential in supporting you, so choosing the right therapist is important.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and adhere to their ethical guidelines. I undertake regular clinical professional development and participate in clinical supervision. If at any time I consider you may benefit form a more specific counselling approach which I am not adequately trained in, I will always be transparent in advising you of this.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
