About me
I am a fully qualified and registered Integrative Psychotherapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work with clients aged 18 and over and have my own private practice, Psychotherapy with Integrity. As an individual and as a therapist, I am efficient, driven and goal focussed.
One of the most important factors of therapy is the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. Clients have described me as down to earth, transparent, supportive, empathic and non-judgemental. I work with what you, as a client brings to a session and will work collaboratively with you.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I combine a range of different modalities into my work including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment Theory and the Person-Centred Approach. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach and therefore personalise therapy to an individual's needs. Therapy can feel daunting for some people, however I do believe that my genuine approach allows a person to feel comfortable. I provide a safe space to share and compassionately challenge clients, enabling them to achieve what they need from therapy at their own pace.
What does Integrative Psychotherapy mean?
Integrative Psychotherapy incorporates approaches from several areas of psychotherapy. In order to meet a client’s emotional, cognitive, behavioural and physiological needs, this approach aims to integrate different modalities and theories, providing a thorough and individualised treatment experience.
Below are the modalities I incorporate into my therapeutic work with clients:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals identify and change negative patterns of thinking and behaviours. The foundation of CBT is that our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are all interconnected, therefore by changing negative patterns of thinking we can change our emotions and behaviours.
Our thoughts impact on how we feel and behave, our behaviours are influenced by our thoughts and emotions and our emotions are influenced by our thoughts and behaviours. Therefore, if we can understand these, we can learn to identify and challenge your thinking errors and replace them with much more healthier and helpful thoughts. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is goal orientated, therefore a focus on doing is just as important as its focus on thinking. CBT is a helpful tool particularly in relation to stress, depression and anxiety but it can also be used when exploring phobias, OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Attachment
I specialise working through developmental and attachment based trauma, using a trauma informed approach. By implementing the modality of attachment allows for further exploration and insight into your conditions of worth and the standards that you have set for yourself. Attachment Theory helps us understand how the bonds that were formed in early childhood can impact our behaviours and views on relationships with ourselves and others. By understanding your attachment style, we can raise awareness of the effects of this in your everyday life, providing a deeper level of understanding of your cognitions and emotions enabling personal development and an increase in self-awareness.
Person Centred Approach (PCA)
I work collaboratively with my clients whilst ensuring that the session is client led and that you choose what we explore. I provide a non-judgemental and accepting safe space, providing unconditional positive regard and empathy. As success is unique to every client, as you become more aware, you will be able to consider what success is for you and what you would like to achieve within the process of therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
For the past 13 years, I have delivered group treatment and worked in one to one case management. After many years of working with childhood and attachment based issues, this being my main area of interest, I ensure that I implement a trauma-informed approach to my work.
I have a full Level 7 Masters in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am fully insured and have an Enhanced DBS status.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
