About me

Hi, I'm Simon. Thank you for visiting my profile page. I would describe myself as a calm, trustworthy, honest, friendly and empathic individual who is passionate about helping people through difficult times in their lives. I have over 22 years experience working within supportive roles such as family and child protection services, the homeless sector and educational settings and 10 years as a person centred and integrative counsellor.

Whatever it is that brings you to counselling, I will strive to offer you a safe and confidential environment and platform that is tailored to your needs as a person. I believe counselling is there to help you build upon your strengths and find the answers you have within yourself. My job is to help you make sense of the challenges that life has conjured up for you, and assist you to change and grow going forward

I thoroughly believe it takes a lot of courage and strength to ask for help and access a service like counselling, and have the upmost respect for anyone who does. I practice the person-centred approach to counselling as I believe everyone deserves to be truly heard in an unconditional manner. We can live our lives thinking and feeling concerned about what other people think of us and what judgements are made, however it is what you think of ourselves that truly matters.

I offer counselling in a variety of ways through online, telephone and outdoor counselling. I particularly specialise in taking therapy outdoors because I believe the natural environment is an incredible therapeutic space to enable people to explore their thoughts and feelings, bringing physical and mental health together.

I think the outdoors and natural spaces hold a therapeutic value particularly if you are struggling with depression, stress and anxiety, and tend to catastrophise or overthink situations. Nature is calming and continuous, helping to bring those thoughts down to a manageable place. Being within the restrictions of a therapy room isn’t for everyone, so why not try outdoor therapy.

I work from various outdoor locations within North Lincolnshire, such as Brigg, Barton and Ulceby. Mobility issues? no worries at all, outdoor counselling is still for you, just let me know at the beginning and I will make adjustments to meet your individual needs.

Over the years I have been drawn more to working within outside spaces as I believe the outdoors and natural environments have a role to play when helping people deal with life's challenges, and in particular anxious thoughts and patterns, depression and any other stress related issues.

Changing environment and pressing the reset button can be needed when there seems to be no where to turn. Having time to explore your thoughts and feelings within a space that is free of judgement or pressure when otherwise that is all what you can concentrate on.

Further information

When I started training and subsequently qualified as a counsellor, I have always had the intention and thought to be as flexible and reachable as possible. I believe that everyone should be able to access help and support, and pride myself on the way I respond quickly, listen to and hear the needs of my clients.

When I entered my own counselling journey around 16 years ago, I came with doubt, worry, insecurity and scepticism. But soon realised (Due to the approach of my counsellor) that IT WAS OK to talk about my feelings, IT WAS OK to express my worries, hopes and fears, IT WAS ABSOLUTELY OK to be me.

And that is what I want to be able to provide to you, ease those worries, help you to understand the thoughts, feelings and emotions you have and find that self-acceptance to make positive decisions going forward.
