About me

Whether this is your first time accessing therapy or you are looking to find a new counsellor, taking that first step can feel daunting. I offer a warm, compassionate, and gentle space where we can explore the challenges you are currently facing, make sense of past experiences, and work towards a future with greater clarity and purpose.

My early career began in Primary Education and working with young adults to avoid homelessness. I later moved into therapy so that I could work with individuals on a more personal level, recognising that everyone’s experience is unique. I have now been in practice for 5 years and have supported people through a wide range of challenges, including low self-esteem, depression, self-harm, and grief and loss. Grief and loss are particular areas of interest for me, including bereavement or anticipatory grief, where a loved one is terminally ill, an individual has a chronic or degenerative illness, or life transitions, as well as situational losses such as estrangement, relationship breakdowns, or life-changing injury. However, therapy can offer space for whatever you may wish to bring, helping you gain greater clarity, build awareness, and work towards lasting change.

How Therapy Begins

Choosing the right therapist can feel overwhelming, and it is natural to have questions such as, “How do I find the right therapist for me?” or “What should I expect from therapy?” These are important questions, and taking time to find clarity is a natural part of the process.

I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship, built on trust and compatibility, is key to successful therapy. To help us see if we would be a good fit to work together, I offer a free 20-minute introductory phone call. You can do this by booking in via Counselling Directory, but if there aren’t times available that suit, please feel free to drop me a direct email or text and we can arrange a suitable time between us. This allows us to connect, get to know each other a little, and decide whether moving forward with therapy together feels right. If we both feel that we would work well together, we can arrange a first session. There is no minimum commitment and no pressure for you to begin sessions. If I feel that my expertise is not the right fit for you, I will endeavour to refer you to an organisation or practitioner who may be better suited to your needs. My priority is that you receive the most appropriate support for you.

What to Expect

During our first session, we will explore what has brought you to therapy and begin to think about what you would like to gain from our work together. If you already have goals in mind, we can discuss these; if not, we can develop them together as our sessions progress. Towards the end of the session, I will aim to offer a sense of how we can work in a way that best supports your needs, and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Above all, my priority is to create a safe, relaxed space where you can freely explore your thoughts and emotions.

Length of Therapy

Short-Term Therapy:

If you are facing immediate challenges or life stressors, short-term therapy can offer focused support when you need it most. I have training and experience in this approach, which provides a confidential space to process your feelings while also exploring practical resources and strategies, such as visualisations, grounding techniques, and mindfulness.

Long-Term Therapy:

If you are ready to explore deeper-rooted issues, long-term therapy offers the opportunity to understand your inner world at your own pace. This approach can support you in working through childhood trauma, complex family dynamics, loss, grief, and other significant life experiences that may continue to influence your present-day thoughts, feelings, and behaviour.

My Approach

My work is grounded in a person-centred approach, which means I will meet you with empathy, kindness, and without judgement, while supporting you to explore whatever has brought you to therapy. Alongside this, I also draw on psychodynamic theory, considering how past experiences, relationships, and upbringing may be shaping how you feel in the present. By gently building understanding and awareness together, we can work towards the changes you want to make in your life.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.” Carl Jung

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
