About me

My name is Scarlett, I am a Person-Centred Integrative Counsellor that has worked in the NHS within the Mental Health sector for over ten years. I am also an experienced Life Coach, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner. I am a registered member (number 378309) of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, having completed their Certificate of Proficiency. I adhere to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I am also an accredited member of the Association for Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists (number 0642).

I am a qualified Reiki Healer, I trained in both Level 1 (Shoden) and Level 2 (Okuden) and I believe this complementary and holistic approach offers many healing benefits that both myself and many I’ve treated have described as ‘life changing’.

Within my career I have experienced and observed the successes and limitations of traditional therapy; it is not uncommon for clients to feel that Counselling has enabled them to understand their problems differently and experience change, however the journey of navigating a new self in a world that no longer appears as it did before therapy can be challenging. This is where I’ve identified a blend of Counselling and Coaching seeks to enhance the growth and development of a person through healing, building confidence and maximising potential. I believe working in this integrative way supports a client to move from surviving into thriving.

My own journey of growing and developing through personal challenges and achievements is my wealth and wisdom in the ‘why and how’ I work with my clients. I meet people with authenticity, transparency and compassion in order to facilitate a journey into accepting who you’ve been, embracing who you are and becoming who you can be. I work with a range of difficulties in a holistic manner encompassing your physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing without separating you. I work from home and have my own Counselling room in my garden, as you will discover in the Therapy section of the website, I’m also trained in working outdoors with clients too.

It’s understandable to feel anxious about seeing a therapist, the first appointment is a chance to experience the environment, therapist, therapeutic relationship and discuss the best approach to working together. Counselling is the building of a therapeutic space and relationship in which you can work through difficulties you may be experiencing in your life; be those past, present or future orientated. The therapeutic relationship in Counselling is unique to other relationships we experience and are familiar with. Clients working with me can expect a non-judgemental and authentic space in which they can be open about themselves as they undertake a journey to have greater understanding, self-awareness and find direction in life. Counselling does not offer a quick fix as growth and discovery take time and investment. Progress is made through attending regular appointments. We agree how often we will meet at a date and time convenient for us. It may be that we use a range of techniques in our work together guided by a person-centred approach; to tailor therapy to your needs. You can find out more information about other therapies I offer through my website.

I am experienced in working with a broad spectrum of difficulties, I don’t believe it is always helpful to list diagnoses and labels, to me you are a unique person and if you are struggling let’s talk about how I can help you. You may describe feeling depressed, anxious, lost, stuck, lacking in motivation, difficulty sleeping; all of which are signs that your body is under stress. The mind and body are not separate entities and within my work I help clients to make connections between their thoughts, feelings and sensations to bring synchronicity to their health and living a meaningful life.

Nature and outdoor spaces have become increasingly important in my own wellbeing and offer a therapeutic space for practising mindfulness and creating space in life to breathe and re-connect. Our lives are so busy, we move from one activity to the next and at times we become ‘human – doings’ as opposed to ‘human beings.’ In my own growth and development journey I started to spend more time outdoors and this led to me eventually training to work outdoors with clients in natural spaces due to the benefits I have experienced and learnt, through taking therapy out of the clinic room. This offers a unique environment in which a client can benefit from greater openness, stillness and gentle movement. Nature provides us with a canvas in which to be creative using metaphor and observation of how nature is in a constant state of change and renewal… just like us. If you’re interested in working outdoors with me, we meet initially ‘indoors’ to discuss the details of this and contracting how we manage situations that can arise outside of a clinic room.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
