About me

Welcome.

I aim to offer a safe and confidential space, where you can feel welcome and accepted as you are. I understand it can be difficult to voice our most uncomfortable or unwanted feelings and thoughts. So together we’ll pay close attention to what supports you to build trust and express yourself in a way that begins to make sense and give meaning to your experiences.

My approach is relational, which means I take much care and consideration into establishing a relationship where you can feel valued and safe to be yourself. I hold a non-judgemental and accepting attitude and will work with what you choose to bring to each session, at your own pace. I value being real and have a genuine interest in getting to know the uniqueness of each person with warmth and respect.

Often in life we have needed to find ways to cope in situations where we might have had limited support. These strategies that once served us well can become fixed patterns or limiting beliefs that seem to keep us stuck. Together we can explore what might be holding you back and experiment with finding new ways of being with ourselves and others, which are more satisfying and freeing.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed a five-year Post Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy (Gestalt Centre Wales) and am a registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I hold professional liability insurance and have an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate. During this time, I built up a private practice offering therapy to children, young people and adults; alongside my work as a school counsellor in both secondary and further education settings.

I was drawn to Gestalt for its holistic and experiential nature and I enjoy bringing creativity into my work. When I meet with a person, I am interested in gathering a picture of their world and their place within it. I have found that using resources such as drawing, image cards, objects and sandtray can be useful ways to raise awareness and allow the unconscious to come through. Most importantly, my focus is on meeting you where you are, and discovering what supports you to feel most at home in yourself.

I am passionate about learning and commit fully to continuing my professional development as well as my own personal healing journey, alongside all my clients. I am currently exploring a specific area of interest by undergoing a two-year shadow work group where we work with the parts of ourselves that we may feel shame, confusion and dislike towards; and seek to find their hidden value.

My background as a youth and community worker has laid a solid foundation for how I understand and relate to the world around me. Over the last fifteen years much of my work in the community has focused on meeting people wherever they are and finding empowering ways to access more support and choice in their lives.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
