About me

Hello, I'm Sarah, a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and the person behind About You Counselling & Wellbeing.

I know that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, especially when you're not quite sure what to expect, where to begin or even how to put what you're feeling into words.

For me, counselling is about having somewhere that's just for you. A space where you don't have to pretend everything is okay, worry about being judged or feel that you need to have all the answers. Somewhere you can simply be yourself, whatever that might look like on the day.

I'm a warm, down-to-earth and approachable person, and I genuinely care about the people I work with. I believe that feeling comfortable with your counsellor and building a trusting relationship is such an important part of the process. I'll always work at your pace, taking the time to really listen and understand what life feels like from your perspective.

My own life experiences, alongside my professional training, have given me a real appreciation of just how different everyone's experiences can be. I'm particularly passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals and those who may have spent much of their lives feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed or as though they need to fit into a world that doesn't always make room for their needs.

I don't believe there's a one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. What matters to me is getting to know you as an individual, understanding what's important to you and offering a relationship built on empathy, honesty and acceptance.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Farsley, Leeds, and online sessions across the UK.

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor, holding both Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications in Therapeutic Counselling, and I'm a Registered Member of the BACP.

Alongside my core qualifications, I've undertaken additional training in trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity, PDA, eating disorders, PMDD and working with suicidal presentations. My training and volunteering with Childline have also been incredibly valuable, deepening my understanding of children's emotional wellbeing, safeguarding, family dynamics and the impact of difficult life experiences.

Through my counselling placements and client work, I've had the privilege of supporting people through a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, trauma, loss, identity and significant life changes. These experiences have reinforced my belief that no two people's experiences are ever quite the same.

My professional knowledge is also shaped by my own lived experiences, including infertility, miscarriage, divorce and its impact on children, and parenting a neurodivergent child with Autism, PDA and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). I also understand the complexities of family relationships, identity and navigating different stages of life, including menopause.

I feel that the combination of my professional training, client work and personal experiences brings a depth of understanding to my counselling practice. I'm passionate about continuing to learn, broaden my knowledge and develop as a counsellor, always recognising that each person has their own unique story and deserves to be met with empathy, compassion and genuine understanding.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

What happens next?

I thought it might be helpful to share a little about what you can expect if you decide to get in touch.

You're welcome to contact me by email or telephone, whichever you prefer. We can have an initial conversation about what you're looking for from counselling, answer any questions you might have and explore whether working together feels like the right fit for you. There's no pressure or obligation to take things any further.

If you decide you'd like to go ahead, we can arrange a time that suits you. I offer face-to-face counselling in Farsley, Leeds, as well as online sessions across the UK.

Our first session together will be an hour long, giving us time to discuss how we'll work together, explore what has brought you to counselling and talk through anything you feel is important. Each session after that will be 50 minutes.

There's no expectation to arrive knowing exactly what you'd like to talk about. Some sessions might be filled with conversation, while others may be a little quieter, allowing space for reflection. We'll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, allowing you the space to explore whatever feels important.

I recognise that everyone has different needs and preferences, and I'm always happy to discuss anything that might help make counselling feel more comfortable or accessible for you.

Session fees:

  • Face-to-face counselling: £60 per session
  • Online counselling: £55 per session

Above all, this is about you. I want you to feel that this is your space and your time, an opportunity to focus on yourself and whatever matters to you. Somewhere you can be yourself, feel genuinely heard and understood, and know that you'll be met with warmth, honesty and acceptance.

If you feel that counselling with me might be right for you, I'd love to hear from you. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions or to arrange an initial conversation. I look forward to hearing from you.
