Sarah Edwards (Dip.Couns, NCS accredited) MBACP
Experienced in working with Individuals, Couples, Families, Teenagers and Young People
I am passionate and committed to helping you find a more positive way forward
Are you feeling at a crossroads in your life? Do you perhaps feel confused or unheard? Are you feeling helpless or hopeless and cannot see a way clearly through your present thoughts and feelings? These thoughts and feelings can often be overwhelming, making it difficult to see a way forward.
I work with clients who are experiencing a variety of issues and concerns, including:- anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, stress, sexuality confusion, depression, (work/school/college/university) worries, loss, relationships, bereavement, loneliness, depression, bi-polar, post-natal depression, bullying, family communication breakdowns, divorce and separation
You will not be alone, together we can explore the feelings and concerns that are blocking your ability to move forward. This will help you to understand your present and your past, enabling you to lead a more fulfilled and happier future.
It has been an absolute privilege being a Counsellor, working alongside my clients and sharing their unique experiences whilst being part of their journey towards positive change.
The counselling process is all about the quality of the relationship between myself and my client. I aim to build your trust by putting you at ease, being warm, open, caring, compassionate, honest and non-judgemental. Our sessions will be confidential.
I have a vast experience of working with people of all ages, genders, diversities and cultures. I have previously worked in the Police Service, Youth Service, & Health Service. Alongside my Private Practice as a Counsellor, I have also volunteered as a Schools Counsellor and have worked as an Educational Mentor and Support Tutor.
I am happy to offer a discount to Student Counsellors who are looking for personal therapy as part of the requirement for their qualification.
I am sadly aware that the opportunity for Teenagers to receive counselling on the NHS or in School can be low. I am often contacted by concerned parents and carers who do not want their child to be left waiting on a list. I offer affordable, low cost appointments, where the young person can feel safe to share their feelings. I appreciate that it can be very difficult for a Teenager to find someone they can trust and talk to in confidence......... I would like to be that person.
I uphold the standards and ethics required by the National Counselling Society (NCS), and the British Association for Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP). This shows my commitment as a professional and protects myself and my clients.
How Counselling Can Help You:
I have been trained from an Integrative perspective, encompassing techniques from:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) this helps you to find different ways of thinking about situations and feelings by challenging your present negative patterns of thoughts and behaviour, and finding new positive ways of thinking.
(Person Centred Therapy), which encourages the client to direct the flow and content of the sessions, being the expert of their own life experience.
(Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis), these techniques help to explore past experiences and relationships, which may be causing you to feel stuck in your present life, due to negative and learned behaviours from childhood.
I also offer Sand Tray Therapy, which is a unique means of communication and exploration and can be used when it is difficult to say how you are feeling. I also offer the use of emotion stones and other art based therapy.
We will work at a pace that is comfortable for you. You are unique, and therefore our therapeutic relationship will develop to meet your needs.
I welcome people of any age, gender, sexual orientation, culture or religion. There are no barriers to the potential of our journey together.
What to expect from our first session:
We will have a chat about your expectations of what working with a Counsellor means to you and what you hope to gain from the counselling process. I will be able to let you know what I can offer you during our sessions and how best we can work together to fulfil your needs.
Our initial meeting will be for 45 minutes at a reduced cost of £25.00. This will enable you to decide whether you feel that I am the person you wish to work with.
Hopefully, we will then make plans to meet regularly at an hourly rate of £35.00
I also offer counselling sessions via email

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

£25.00 for an initial 45 minute consultation
£35.00 for subsequent hourly sessions
£30.00 for an initial consultation
£50.00 for subsequent hourly sessions
I am happy to discuss a reduced fee for Children, Adolescents, and Student Counsellors
All initial appointments are paid for via bank transfer at the time of booking in order to secure the time and date. Subsequent, ongoing appointments are required to be paid for via bank transfer within 24 hours of each previous session. This enables you to retain your preferred day and time and also allows me to know what can be offered to potential clients.
I ask that you give me at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or rearrange our scheduled appointment. This will enable me to offer my time to another client in your absence. Otherwise, I respectfully request that the hourly fee be paid. I am unable to refund for appointments not attended.
You may email me anytime. Please phone me between the hours of 8am and 8pm. If I cannot answer immediately, I will make contact as soon as I am able.
I am an accredited member of The National Counselling Society. I am a Registered Member of The British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists.
I hold Personal Indemnity Insurance which protects both myself and my clients. I also meet regularly with a Supervisor in order to ensure that I am fully meeting the needs of my clients.
