About me

Hello, I’m Sarah. I’m a person-centred counsellor with a passion for helping people navigate life’s challenges, discover and work through what may be holding them back, and enable them to emerge from their experiences more resilient and with a more positive connection with who they are.

What you’re going through may be something you can’t quite put your finger on but would like the opportunity to explore, a recent issue or experience you have had, or something which you have struggled with long -term. I will work alongside you at your pace and listen with compassion and understanding. Putting you at the heart of the process, we can explore together what is negatively impacting your life, what may be keeping you ‘stuck’ in that experience, and how you may be able to make lasting changes so you are better-equipped to manage what may come your way in the future. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to bring and make sense of whatever it is that is on your mind.

I am aware that it can be a daunting process choosing a counsellor and that it is important to feel comfortable with who you work with. I offer a free, no-obligation 30 minute phone or video call so you have a chance to meet me, talk a little more what you would like from counselling, and ask any questions you may have. Sessions are 50 minutes long and I can work online or in-person.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at Network Counselling and Training in Filton for my Level 4 Advanced Certificate in Counselling Skills and my Level 5 Counselling Diploma. My training integrated psychological understanding with a focus on the whole person- body, mind and spirit. I feel comfortable supporting those wishing to bring faith or spirituality to the sessions.

I have had over 25 years’ experience in an educational context working with adults and young people from a wide range of cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. I also work as an Initial Assessor at Network Counselling.

I am registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. This means I follow their strict ethical framework, undertake regular training, and ensures I keep up to date with the latest techniques and developments in the counselling field.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
