About me

Hi, I’m Rowan.

If you're reading this because you're feeling stuck, and life feels heavy or confusing, you're in the right place. My work is all about helping people to understand what's going on beneath the surface so they can feel calmer, clearer and more in control. Whether it's you, or a young person you care for who is struggling; my aim is simple - to help life feel easier, lighter and more manageable.

What working with me feels like

My clients tell me that for the first time, they feel understood - not judged, not analysed, but authentically met in the place they are at. Together, we make sense of the thoughts, feelings or behaviours that keep tripping you up. We uncover what needs to shift so you can move forward with clarity.

If you're overwhelmed, anxious or just exhausted by "trying to hold it all together", our sessions will help you:

  • understand why your mind reacts the way it does
  • break patterns that keep pulling you back
  • learn how to regulate your emotions and your body
  • reconnect with who you are (not who you should be)
  • rebuild boundaries, relationships and self-worth
  • recover from trauma - including the kind that didn't start with you

Areas I work with in adults:

  • anxiety
  • depression/low mood
  • complex trauma
  • family issues
  • difficult relationships

How I support teens and young people

If you're here on behalf of a young person, or your child, I know how hard it can be for young people to open up, and how things can improve when they feel safe to work with the right person.

Young people often come to me anxious, withdrawn, overwhelmed or unsure of who they are becoming. Over time, they begin to:

  • express what's really going on behind the shutdown, anger or anxiety
  • understand themselves and their emotions
  • feel more confident
  • navigate friendships, identity, family tensions and pressure
  • heal from trauma, bullying, loss or loneliness
  • develop healthier ways of coping

My experiences working as a school counsellor means I understand the world your teen is living in, and how to reach them in a way that feels natural, not forced.

Areas I work in with young people:

  • anxiety
  • depression/low mood
  • self-harming behaviours
  • self-image
  • exploring sexuality
  • intrusive/suicidal thoughts
  • neurodivergence - Autism/ADHD
  • relationship issues/personal boundaries

Why my approach works

I tailor my work to you, as a unique individual: While I primarily use a talking therapy approach, I also offer creative ways of working - such as drawing or Sand Tray work - to help you fully engage in the counseling process.   Sometimes feelings are difficult to put into words, and using creative methods can provide an alternative way to explore your experiences. This approach often helps uncover new insights and perspectives. In addition, I can offer calming strategies to support nervous system regulation, helping you feel more grounded and able to engage in the work.

I have recently completed training for 'Walk and Talk' therapy and I am keen to offer this to my adult clients. I am a firm believer in the healing quality of walking, being outdoors in green spaces and engaging with nature.

My work is grounded in trauma-informed practice, understanding attachment and the deep belief that healing happens when all parts of the self - mind, body and emotions - are heard.

What shaped me as a therapist

Before counselling, I spent years in holistic massage therapies, listening to people’s stories through the body as well as the mind. My training in dance and expressive arts taught me how emotions live physically, not just mentally. These experiences mean I bring a whole-person approach to therapy: gentle, curious, grounded - with enough lightness and humour that people feel at ease quickly.

Clients often tell me, “I feel like I can finally be myself with you.”

That’s exactly what I want for you or your child.

I’d love to support you or your loved one in creating a life that feels more stable, hopeful and connected. Please don't hesitate to get in touch - I offer a free phone call, with no obligation to follow up with counselling, if you're still undecided.

Some words from previous clients:

"...You've helped me to make some brilliant decisions about my life, and allowed me to realise that I'm not the only one who feels certain things"  (Adult client)

"Thank you so much for everything you've done for L******* It really has made a huge difference!"  (Parent of  a young client)

"...the counselling sessions have really helped and made me feel confident about speaking about the real side of things in my life"   (Teen client)

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
